Well, I suppose after almost 450 posts it's time for an introduction. :scratch2:
Hi,
I found this place by googling for info on a pair of Sansui SP-1500 speakers I picked up cheap at a garage sale. I was tired of using my computer speakers as my main source of music, and I decided the Sansui's along with an old receiver would be a good start. My high school physics teacher had a small Kenwood integrated amp, and some fairly big Norman Labs speakers in his room that sounded great. I knew vintage gear could sound good, but I had no idea how to discern the crap from the silver face we know and love.
Well, after hanging out here for a few weeks I started to get a clue about what gear was worth getting. I found some Norman Labs speakers of my own, and I picked up my Yamaha amp from the classifieds. "Now", I thought, "this is good sound!" Nevertheless, I started hounding Craigslist for more. I found an interesting set of speakers that, with a little help from the membership here, were identified as DCM Time Windows. They reside in my main system, and still continue to impress me
Now, about a year and a half later, I have two vintage systems, I'm running an external DAC, I'm spinning vinyl, I am recapping an amplifier, and I have a set of AR9's waiting to be restored in the garage.
The best part, however, has been the music. I am experiencing it like never before. My stereo has kept me sane through recent cartilage problems that have been plaguing my knees. I can't ride my bike or play a round of Ultimate Frisbee, but I still have my tunes played back in sweet high...err...mid fidelity. :music:
Thanks AK. :)
Oh yeah, does anyone else think members here should get tax deductions for the amount of money we pump back into the economy through upgrading our gear? :p:
