I have the option to buy either laser disc player for $20, which should I go with? both are in exellent shape. The LD-V4400 Specs SLIGHTLY better sound wise but both offer digital audio and the CLD-V2600 offers Svideo out. Help!

I have the LD-V4400, and seems to be a nice player. Having a remote really helps, but they are normally hard to find.
Be aware the the LD-V4400 will not play CDs, whereas the CLD-V2600 will.

Go with the CLD, plays CDs.
Just one less device to have IMO

I'd go with the LD-V4400. It's an industrial machine and appears to be from the same series as the LD-V8000. These industrial machines seem to be bullet proof and keep going forever.
The CLD-V2600 is labelled as an industrial machine, but it appears to be based on the same mechanism as similar consumer players such as the CLD-1950.
The video signal on a Laserdisc is recorded as composite video, there is no way to extract S-video of the disc itself. The S-video output on a Laserdisc player is derived by decoding composite into S-video. The will only give a better picture when the decoder in the player is better than the decoder in the TV it is connected to.
Either way, both of them are singled sided machines so they are less prone to problems than double sided machines.
Most Pioneer Laserdisc players seem to use the same remote codes (the remote from my 1983 LD-7000 will operate the basic function on most of my later players) so finding a compatible remote shouldn't be difficult.

Haha, I am trying to avoid anything black plastic but I needed a CD player so I got a ridiculous laserdisc player that plays 5 CDs. Before that I had a 40+ pound die cast metal laserdisc player that played one CD.

no way, jose. a LASERDISC player should NEVER be used for CDs. that's what a CD PLAYER is for. sooner or later, the supply of good LD players will dry up because everyone uses them to play CDs on!!:nono::no::thumbsdn:

exactly. unless you're particular,(like me) any pioneer CU-LD/CLDxxx remote will do. you should be able to get a basic one for a cheap BIN on the bay...

Before I got the Pioneer HLD-X0, I had a Runco LJR-II which was about a 50 lbs box that was only a TRANSPORT for one CD. you needed an external DAC. It was actually used as a CD transport for 5 years, then switching back to Laserdisc playback without any issue.

perhaps, but using an LD player for double duty like that just makes it wear out faster...:thumbsdn:
I have the V2600 hooked up to a projector, its a decent player, seemingly reliable, never really had a problem with it. My only gripe is when it autoreplays a side on a CAV disc it cuts off the last few seconds.
