So happened that I auditioned a couple of days ago, driven with audiolab 8000S. They are outright smooth, polite and unintrusive. Typically English but do not sound overly thick, say in between B&W and Pro Ac. They do not project pin point imaging nor quick but organic. Easy to drive 91 db of sensitivity. They are sealed box, doubt that they are happy placing against the wall. 1 1/2 hours audition is not enough for me to experience placement to draw any conclusions. Somehow, the bass could have been tighter for my taste. You can't be mistaken a floorstanding speaker if you are blindfolded.
Can't figure out configuration of the binding posts. My findings is based on amp connected to hi and mid. Best driven with fast sounding solid state, with tube, the bass is woolly. IMO, they are not PRaT speaker. Classical genre should be the ticket.
The pair shown are in really good condition. Best to listen for yourself.

Hmmm... they were assembled and tested by Paul Thorpe, I wonder if that's Billy Thorpe's brother? :scratch2: :D

They sound absolutely wonderful. I have since gone to PS Audio Bi-Wire Statement cables....UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! I have never heard them Aktiv but I am plenty happy running the passive application. Got a hell of a deal as well.

Has Linn ever designed a loudspeaker not to be placed anywhere else but close to a back wall? I don't think so!

Not sure...I heard that since most apartments in the UK are small, that had something to do with the design. My friend is visiting the LINN factory this week and I had asked him to inquire about this very subject......I'll keep you posted...

How did I miss the fact that there is an entire section dedicated to Linn? Never hurts to remember to scroll down ;)
I'm stoked to find someone that shares my enthusiasm for the Keilidhs. I just bought a pair myself, they are great speakers.

I have a pair of Keilidhs too. I read that there is/was replacement drivers available at some point. Does anybody know about this? And I'm also thinking of going for passive bi-amping. I was wondering if both amps have to be identical, or have teh same ratings. Could you use a 40 wpc amp for the highs and a 100 wpc for the lows? What do you think?
Oh, it's my first post. Long time lurker. Hi everybody.

Welcome to AK:
Until recently I had understood there were 2 versions of the tweeters, if that is what you are referring to re: replacement drivers.
I had read that the later of the 2 versions was the more desirable.
I recently emailed Linn Tech Support from their webpage with the S/Ns of my Keilidhs to determine which "treble drivers" as they call them my speakers have.
I was advised per the S/Ns my speakers have an improved tweeter from the original but not the last version of tweeters they used.
I did not ask if there are still any replacement drivers available, but I'd guess you could find that out from the Linn TS team.
BTW I am thinking of listing my Keilidhs on Audiogon, so if there is any interest let me know
