Today was our annual "exchange day" at the Newton dump.

My haul:
- Nice, clean, fully-operational HK-330C receiver
- Dirty (appears to be fully functional, missing AM antenna) Technics SA-500 Receiver.
- Luxman DC-113 CD changer (has both single tray and slot of 6-CD "magazine"). Missing the magazine. Appears to be fully-operational.
- Pair of Bose 601 speakers. Fully intact, veneer cabinets, grilles OK but I'd re-grille them, speakers need refoaming.

All for free.

That said -- and I'll make a "Free" entry under Member Classified and Partswap for any New England AKer who wants any of these items (except the HK -- that's for my next door neighbors once they finish remodeling their den) and is willing to pick up. I will not ship. (Update: Ad has been posted -- Free, Miscellaneous)

OLD JOKE :

Wife comes home from shopping and says to husband "Honey, I was down in the dumps today, so I picked up this new hat".

Husband says "So that's where you get them?"

Thanks, I'll be here all week, try the veal!

Haha, that rocks. Our city dump is "mined" by a local business named Urban Ore. They get the goods and mark things up in their warehouse. You can find good stuff but it's generally really picked over.

I too collect the free stereo gear and hook up my friends and neighbors. I have a couple local sources for audio gear adoption. It's fun, makes someone else's day and it keeps me out of trouble.

Darn, HKs have no resale value. I need to kick it at the dump.

I've never been to the dump. Do they usually have a building or area that they let you pick through the stuff?

Up here, it's agin the law to do that. The dump is secured with fence and dogs.

At the dump here, you're banned from taking stuff out of the pile heading for landfill/recycling. It's stupid - they're stopping recycling at the most efficient point.

They probably don't want a law suit. But I have heard stories of folks parking their vans close by and absconding with a few trinkets!

I snagged a vintage skateboard once. But they take a dim view arond here of taking things from the dump. Not sure why. It is the first point of recycling. Of course around here, where would all the meth addicts work if the tranfer/recycle warehouse shut down.

The HK, while not a powerful unit, is a very nice sounding receiver, as I had one I donated to AK, and now resides with scorpion8 in AK.

Great sound to 'em.

And very subtle, understated, classy looks.

good job!

That sh*t makes me sick. If t's in the dump and someone wants it then whats the problem. If you are referring to a "junk yard" then I can understand as I lot of them scrap the metal for money. But if it;s just a dump then I see no issue besides the fact that recycling is good and I don't want my grand children to have to live on top of "crap" because some idiot did not want someone to take from his dump. Guess what, there's an island of trash in the ocean twice the size of Texas and getting BIGGER by the day. If it's junk then it needs to be recycled anyway possible. Taking said item before they dismantle it to get to the "good parts" and discard the rest creates less waste.

Off the soapbox -

Great finds. I wish I knew where to go for our free stuff left at the curb. Where does it all go?

Where else can you read something like "I went through a pile of garbage and picked up THIS (now comes the description of what others may consider a piece of junk along the lines of a used diaper)", and others (who do not push supermarket carts full of cans on a daily basis will find it totally acceptable, and often go to sleep green with envy?! :screwy:

Gotta love this place...:nutz:
