Hey Everyone,
I know this has been addressed before, but I'm still unsure and would love everyone to voice their 2 cents.
Looking to buy my first vintage receiver and I'm really digging Marantz. I cant decide wether to go with the 4270 or the 2270. I'm hopefully gonna be running a Pioneer PL 518 turntable into it as well as my Sony 5-disc CD/DVD player (haven't decided on speakers yet).
Well, there it is. Bring on the opinions....
Thanks,
-J

4270 is a 4 channel unit that puts out 70wpc in bridged mode. Its a little crammed and has more complex circuitry. YOu also need the SQ module or CD-4 outboard decoder if you want to play those formats.
The 2270 is a dedicated stereo receiver, built a little better IMHO. A classic example of good engineering, great tuner.
Since you're only going to go for 2 channel, just grab the 2270.

Keep in mind that 4270 is one complex box stuffed full of electronics.... If you really don't care to run a 4 channel system then the only benefit of the 4270 would be the Dolby unit. Which is kind of limited in usage these days anyway....
If all you want is 2 channel... I would say you should stay with the 2270. They have stood the test of time better than a quad unit due to less components.
Don't get me wrong I have 4400s and a 2270.... I use one 4400 as quad and one in stereo.... But the quad units need more care to keep running in top shape....

Thanks guys. I think I'm gonna go after a 2270. On more question. Is there anything I need to worry about regarding running a CD/DVD player through this type of receiver?
Thanks again

None. just use the Aux jacks I have mine running through a switcher into the TV/SAT so I can adjust the volume with the TV remote instead of gettin' my lazy butt off the couch:D Nothing against the 4-ch stuff but, it's like a friggin' copy machine in there meaning if you can't work on it it's gonna cost $$$ to pay someone else and don't think of asking for a dollar off for every swear word they utter while they work on it:D Get one soon, the word is out and prices are going up because they're so nice! Remember to post in dollars & sense forum if you use a link to CL,e-bay,audioGon or Oak Tree etc to see if the unit is worth it!

Seems like those push buttons on the 4270 break off easier than other models.
I like the look of the 4270 a lot. The 2270 is really one of Marantz's best in my view.
