Anyone have a tip for pulling out the meter box in B units? 2226b, 2285b. I want to replace the Vellum behind them since they are looking quite dull next to the dial. I can tell the plastic housings are held in with 2 plastic clips at the bottom.
Problem is, I'm betting that they will break....easily. Now if they break, will the top clip hold it in enough to still look good from the outside of the unit? Or, does another member have a way here to hold the box in with broken clips
Marantz could have done a little better here with the design. Or perhaps they did not expect them to last 30yrs....LOL

My experience has been the best way for changing the vellum paper is to go in through the front not the back, going through the front you won't be disturbing any of the plastic housings, but if you need to relamp you may need to also go in through the back.

I replace my vellum through the front also for the dials. However I can't see a way to get it behind the meters without taking the box off to get the meters out.
Perhaps you could offer a tip for doing so?
Thanks

Could you post a picture? On a 2235B you don't need to remove the meters.

Once you have removed the dial face you are there.
This link pertains to relamping but see if it helps any.

I've never tried to post pics yet, need to learn that one.
The B unit meter housings are simular to the 2235b. They are held in by plastic clips in front as opposed to having 2 screws on top.
I can get the front plate, and the dial off with no problem. Its behind the meters themselves I am having trouble with.
But you are saying you don't have to remove the plastic housing to replace the Vellum behind the meters? I skipped the vellum behind the meters in my 2235b also because I could not quite get the housing off. I'm not a tech and was afraid of breaking it.
If you could explain how to do this without removing the meter housing I would be eternally grateful.....

It has been a while since I had mine apart, does yours look like this?

If so the indicated 2 screws hold the meters in place, you can try carefully removing them and see if the meters come free through the front, be gentle.
Have you done a search for a Service Manual?

Yup, that is just like my 2235b. And the B is really the same idea without the screws. There are plastic clip holding it at the bottom. Was afraid to break those too. So I stopped. Got it loose and moving but not enough to get behind the meters. I have nice, blue light on the dial, green on the meters...
My concern is breaking those clips. If they break perhaps the housing will rest in there anyway?
