I have a *walmart* brand HTIB and I was wondering if it was worth paying $40.00 each for 2 pairs of speaker stands.

I was wanting stands so I will finally be able to place the speakers like they were meant to be placed like in the manual where all the speakers are far apart and the sub is in the corner. The sub is the A/V contol center so it has to be within range of the remote longer speaker wire may help.

If not I'll think about

-Investing in a bigger louder HTIB with tall-skinny speakers

-use my seperate 2 channel system as my AV (DVD and VCR sound) There is a video audio input on the back of the receiver or save that for laserdisc. if I can find an LD player/

-hook them to the wall with nails but have to deal with snaking leingths of 24 gague wire for the rears.

I don't mind having speaker wires near my listening spot though.

No matter how expensive or inexpensive a system is, one will not get the optimum performance without proper speaker placement. If that requires getting speaker stands, then bite the bullet and get the stands. That is my $.02 worth of advice.

tcdriver is right,.....speaker placement is everything.....get the stands and place the surrounds in corners if possible...45ish degrees if sitting in front of the surrounds,....90 degrees if sitting on the back wall.

I like to have the sub inside the 2 fronts.....tried having it in the corner and the bass blew out everything...

check here for placement advice..:)

Thanks for the link, you are right about the sub if you put it in the corner you loose extension and it sounds tubby especially seice it is powered and is the A/V amp of the system. :scratch2:

Placing the sub in the corner usually produces more bass, but often lesser quality bass.

That the sub is powered or contains the amps for the rest of the system has nothing to do with it.
