I didn't mean to, but it is happening anyway.

The S.e.X. kit from Bottlehead arrives on 4/29. They had told me that it shipped but when I asked for the tracking number, they found that it didn't because they were short a xfmr. Anyway, Eileen apologized and asked if I wanted them to expedite shipping which I declined but hinted that a nice Bottlehead hat or a couple of logo badges would be nice. ;)

I am looking for electrolytic caps for my newly acquired Pilot 602 and found that they aren't very obtainable.

I have found a couple of NOS, but wouldn't their integrity be dubious at best?

Is it acceptable to gut the mulitcap cans and leave them in place, then hard wire newer caps into the circuit from below? Maybe not for the purists but it seems to me to be a safer and more reliable solution.

That is perfectly acceptable and is done quite often.:thmbsp:

Here I thought I was inventing some special thing and everyone would declare me a "special genius".

hey-Hey!!!,
There are lots of folks messing about with old tube gear that a lot of the permutations and combinations have already been explored. Not all of them though, so don't be discouraged; keep on inovating...:) Glad to see you've gotten into the building end of this hobby, it can be plenty of fun. Your new amp will teach you a lot, some about how to, and some how not to. I'm very much looking forward to reading about your first ground-up original work!
cheers,
Douglas
