Hey there,

New to valve amps and forum so a bit of a first for me. Just bought the Yaqin MS12-B preamp for a ton on Ebay from a guy who'd bought it direct from China but found it wasn't for him. But then he was comparing it to his Croft which I gather is quite hi end.

Well I've never had a valve amp before, hooked it up to my old Arcam Delta 120 monoblock power amp and really like the sound so far. Playing with "tube rolling" and bought some NOS Mullards and Brimars, just burning them in but seems all good so far. I normally listen to quite bass heavy stuff, R&B, Reggae etc. but the valve amp really brings out the mid range which is nice for a change:D

The Yaqin has 2 outputs, one for outputting to an integrated amp, mainly for it's function as a phono stage, and the other when used as a complete preamp into a power amplifier as I'm using it (it has another line input which I've hooked my CD player into). The difference between the outputs would appear to be the power or voltage? The .25v output is spare, the one you would use if the Yaqin was plugged into another preamp/integrated amp.

Can I use this output to link to my CD Recorder? As a vinyl man I do like to put the odd compilation together but don't know how it works with out a dedicated "tape" output. If this won't work does anyone know of any converters or kits that can provide a record output for pre-amps that don't have them? Both external and internal as I fancy doing a bit of tinkering if given half the chance!

Thanking you in advance

Hi...
The .25 input is for an amplifier and the .07 is for an integrated amp. There is one input for a line source such as a CD, DVD whatever next to the aforementioned RCA's.
On the other end of the unit is the Phono output with the ground post.
Hope that helps....

Bill, ya got'em backwards!

The output tap labelled .25 goes to the pre/integrated amp. and the .70 goes to the power amp...:tears:

Thanks for looking at my question and answering. The thing is, can I use the .25 output straight into my CD Burner?

Or if not how can I convert or DIY kit out the Yaqin to have a record out? I'm thinking that the basics r there, ie an output but I'm assuming the voltage isn't rite or something. I could just try it but I'm worried I'll blow my cd burner or something.....

Oh and a couple more things;

since you guys own the same preamp, I bought some new electro harmonix Au7's and Ax7's to see the difference between them and the NOS valves I got but noticed the Ax7 was particularly bad, hissy, distant. The actual circumference of the valve body is definitely bigger that the stock chinese and NOS valves so they don't push in all the way. Have you ever used these tubes and had the same problem?

That .25 tap is designed to do exactly that, so you should be good to go! Let us know how it works out, okay?:thmbsp:

I'd stay away from those EHs that are giving you trouble; just not worth the risk or hassle, IMO. EH does make some damn fine tubes (5881s, for ex), but the 12AX7s aren't among their better offings.

Thanks again. Nearly started celebrating :banana:but when I tried it the light was on but nobody was in:no:

Tried different phono cables etc. no response from the crowd. I know the .25 output works, I used it briefly into my previous amp before I took my old preamp off the loop (sounds much better using the yaqin as an all in preamp rather than the Cambridge Audio solid state elec).

Any ideas?

Incidentally I am contemplating getting a pre-amp with more inputs and using the yaqin just as a phono stage. Ideally a cheap Chinese job again, looking at the MC-7R series but noticed they don't have a "record out". Do you know of any that do have record outs?

Cheers.

:banana:yeay, worked it out for anyone following this thread. I now have a Music Angel KT88 integrated amplifier set up. The Yaqin has my main CD player and record deck plugged into it. The Yaqin is then plugged into the "aux" input of the amp, via the 0.25 output, then the 0.75 output goes straight into my CD Recorder. The playback of the CD Recorder as you record is through the "CD" input of the amp. Voila, effectively a tape monitor type set up.

So as far as I'm concerned the Yaqin is even better value for money as it still enables me to make compilations easily without swapping round wires. But note this will only work an integrated amp, not a pre-amp/power amp set up. It may be that this solution causes shock horror amongst the audiophiles amongst you, as I haven't seen many valve amps with record out options (perhaps this is too impure?) but it's very practical.

Thanks for the update, and glad it worked out!

Have you tried any other tubes?

I'm currently breaking in a pair of Brimar 12AX7's and Mullard 12AU7's, NOS which sound sweet. The EH's I've put aside as they just don't fit properly.

Now I have the conundrum of working out how to mod/tweak my Music Angel. They don't have the best reputation for consistency and quality for the internals, no ground for a start so I'm trying to do a crash course in audio electronics starting with how to work out the schematic by looking at the amp, should be ready to start in ....maybe a year........!:tears:

Great man...:thmbsp:
I agree with you there.....
Enjoy.
