I can't say no to a poor old unwanted tube console. Actually the original owner lady put the guilt trip on me, telling me it was a birthday present to her on her 13th birthday in the early 60's....:sigh:

Check out the pix.....

Three 6BQ5's, one each in SEP I suppose for the mids and highs, and a single center bass channel, also SEP I suppose.

This thing is really pristine, with all original tubes. The owner said it was a really big thing in it's time for her to have it, but that it didn't get a whole lot of use after the newness wore off. It's only 32" long, so I'm going to hold onto it complete for now, but I can't help but think that I could find a use for a 3 channel amp with another set of 3 speakers I have lying around somewhere....

Where did I put those things????....:scratch2:....:D

Anyone know where I can find a schematic? Is there anyway to tell if the channels are set up with any frequency limitations on them, or is this accomplished by the caps I see hanging off the tweeters? How about the center channel? Would it be high frequency limited?

Thanks..............:thmbsp:

Well, the output Iron for the bass channel definitely looks beefier. I have a feeling there could be some kind of internal crossover.

Wow! That's really, really cool. I've never seen an RCA console like this before. Definitely, keep this intact!

Be careful, the tubes in this one seem especially wily - look at the lower right in the middle picture on the second row! One of them is trying to make a break for it!

Certain tubes seem sneakier than others - someone needs to come up with a paper on tube phychology, but I've noticed that radio/hi-fi output tubes and color television horizontal output tubes seem to be more inclined to run away from their homes than others. Some small preamp tubes will also jump out of their sockets and run off, I've seen various things on ebay that are mysteriously missing their 12AX7's. It must be due to the small glass and many little legs that allows these to be pretty quick, to escape unnoticed by the amplifier's owner.

You might want to look into getting lockdown tabs or some other form of restraints for these guys. I can tell what they're up to, they can't hide it. I can see right through them!

Yeah amazing how that happens. This little fella was pretending he was a 12AX7, but I caught the deception and snagged him before he could make a break for it....:D

BTW, you should look up Bakes, who also lives in Niskayuna. He loves showing off his built-in subwoofer that shakes the whole house.....

Whoever designed that radio chassis must have run out of space to
plant an IF stage tube on the side like this! All the more interesting...

Good luck with this project, I would definitely keep it stock if I had it.

Sams folder 569-14 covers this - 1962. I doubt I have it, but they can be found without much trouble - start with your library...
