I need some help from you guru's out there. What can you tell me about these massive transformers. Would they be good for a future audio build?
They are from a 300 watt tube guitar amp. The numbers I get off the big ones are
EIA6820234 and 64-602-12 on one and 64-602-40
Here is a not so great photo but you maybe able to see how friggin huge these things are.
TIA

Is one power and the other output I guess?
and is that a pair of panties laying there?

Could be. Guess I'll take a close look. Would the small one on the front right be a choke then?
Looks like the were made by Electrical Windings(now TMI)
The amp runs six 6550 tubes for power

Got a nudie shot? I guess I should be careful asking that, what with the panties on the floor and all...

Your dodging the panties question man!:D
I would just measure them tangs man. If you can get your hands on a variac you can hook em up and but a suitable load on the secondary. Get out the ol DMM and see what output you get for a given input.

That was a good one :)
I could get you one but it's just a bunch or pcb boards.
The one TX marked 64-602-12 goes to the output for sure. The other two plug in to pc boards

Do you know who made the amp? 300W gitfiddle amps are few and far between.:scratch2:

That's what I'm thinking Paul. Might be better to fix it up and sell it, then use the money for some "for sure" Hi-Fi iron. I would guess the PT is the one next to the choke. Sometimes great big ol' iron like that doesn't like low volumes either, plus it would be mono.

Look, you guys are really weird. You talk about 'massive trannies' and you show photos of panties on the floor...
And then you talk stereo gear.
Freaks.

I agree.
There was a "power war" of guitar amps about 10 years ago. Marshall put out a 300W tube amp to compete with Mesa/Boogie's Rectifier line. This was Crate's answer to the competition.
The Rectifiers won out, in the long run. They are great sounding amps.
The Crate, with it's original cab, looked really cool with all of it's tubes glowing behind expanded metal, ala Soldano.

I'm not sure if this one is any good. I'm not sure I want to buy six 6550's to sell. Otherwise I'd agree on selling it as it is as working.
Anyone wanna send me some 6550's so I can test it out? :)
I have a couple other's like this but smaller. a BV 120 and a V 50

I wouldn't give up on it. With some mods it could be a killer guitar amp. Maybe.:D
Do you have the cabinet?

Nope. I don't have the cabs for any of them. If they are not worth using for audio then I'll probably sell them or trade em or summin as the last thing I need is another guitar amp. :)

Tube powered subwoofer perhaps?

I'll keep track of it for you :D
Holy crap, what kind of a cabinet would you need to handle a 300 watt heavily overdriven amp? I know B-52 makes a 480 watt 4x12 with custom speakers, but if you were to use recognized good sounding cabs and speakers-- maybe recto 4x12's with vintage 30's? You would need a full stack to handle it for sure.
