Was rather surprised to see a pre-recorded Metal audio cassette (MFSL didn't even do that). I figured it was a find at $0.35.

Cantate Domino by Proprius Records distributed by AudioSource.

Sounds fabulous.

New one on me!

The metal blanks I had always sounded superior, but still I fear that sound....

that garbly sound of tape being wound around the pinch rollers!!!!!

ARGH!!!

All through my youth (read... 'the '80's) I feared that sound.

Cool find.

Thanks. I'm assuming Dolby B. I didn't see anything designating a "C" -plus I think it might be safer to go Metal/Dolby B as there are a good number of decks that had metal but no 'C'. (Yes, I know, many good decks out there don't have Metal -but they also don't have 'C' -plus playback of Metal on a non metal deck is, of course, just fine.)

I wonder how many times I passed over this cassette. I go to this store once every other week or so. I've come to know the manager -I priced a pair of Phase Tech 435es's and a Mirage BPS-100 for him today- and he's holding any metal/chrome blanks that come in -as well as letting me know when anything else on 'my list' comes in. This is the thrift that supports my old H.S. -so I guess that's my 'in'. Anyway, I go to the cassette section first thing whenever I go in since it's right by the entrance. I probably passed by this cassette many times. For some reason the "Metal" on the case jumped out at me today.

Unless this cassette turns up on ebay for $100, I'm keeping it. I like the music too much. It's more of that classical sacred music you just dont' find anymore [/ 'praise and worship' crap].

j, I was just curious about the Dolby thanks, as to my 2nd statement it's my attempt at humour. It's one of the funniest movie's John Waters(Hairspray) made, lot's of great lines! I was taking a stab that you might have be a fan is all. I still have to get some one to help me post my pic's of my MA-XG's they turned out very nice!

Yeah, I kind of thought it was from that move -though I couldn't remember the name.

I'd love to see the pics.

btw, I picked up about 35 used Type II's in the past month -including a few XL-IIs's, SA-X's and Sony UX-ES's. I also scored a few NOS from Goodwill -including 3 wrapped XL-IIs's. Price ranges from $0.07 for the used and $0.50 for the NOS from Goodwill (our GW's won't sell blanks that have been recorded on -so those have come from garage sales and estate sales.)

Aren't those the little Teac cassettes that go for a surprising amount on that auction site..?

Wow. I remember lusting after these for some stupid reason, finally buying one, and had MUCH trouble with it. Unless you had strong motors in your cassette deck, it would bog down, eat tape, you name it. There's one on that site now, still in packaging. Bids end on May 4th, and we're already talking 3 gallons of gas....:sigh:

Wow again. Still, they do LOOK cool. :D

Yes, those "mini-reel" tapes go for a premium to collectors (I collect them, too!), and the TEAC 52 metal ones go for a BIG premium. There is an old thread here on AK about them, started by Dr. Strangelove who did some impressive and excellent research about them. You'll find info, entertainment and pics in that thread, here: http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=85641

Most people get these just to collect and to display in their tape decks, especially for taking pictures. It is NOT very advisable to play them, as sometimes the tape slips over the edge of the reels and gets caught up and mangled inside. Also, (except for the rare metal ones) they usually don't sound very good, anyway.

There have been some other threads about them here and on other sites, too. They show up pretty regularly on that big auction site, too.

Just for looks, I guess. :) Someone paid an awful lot recently for four unopened ones! Sorry, not trying to get this moved to D&S, just an observation.
