Well it took some time, But the greatest fuel funny car driver in history, Got upstaged, Buy his daughter!!! . Ashley Force, Won her first NHRA fuel funny car race at last Sundays Southern Nationals. It wasn't easy. The driving gene got passed to her, When in the semi-finals that car was all crossed up in the lights, You could see the logos on the side of the car. Only one other driver could have saved it, Her old man. Her final round victim was John Force, Still recovering from one of the worse crashes ever in a flopper, In 07. Proving he still has what it takes, Force posted low et/top speed of the meet 4.77/328. AF leads funny car standings which has never been done, By a female, And no female has ever reached the finals in FC. With 3rd teamate Robert Haight also running well, Force Racing will be a "Force" the rest of the way.

I'm amazed at the times lately. Back in the late 70's I owned a 454 Chevy Chevelle SS and we'd take it to the tracks on Saturday afternoons. Back then if you were in the high 12's low 13's you thought you were doing fantastic. I can't imagine doing the same thing in under 5 seconds...
Those were the good old days for me. Haven't been to the drag strip in years now....

Agreed, Around LA in the late 70's thru the 80's, We had 10sec Camaros, A guy had a Mustang, And a couple of wicked Chargers ran around, And they were barely drivable on the street. Now they have the Hot Rod magazine Pump Gas drags every year, The winner posted something like a 8.0, With a BBC Nova. With so much focus on camshaft/cylinder head technology going on in drag racing, It trickles down onto the street more than ever. 1000-1200HP on the street is not uncommon in certain places around the country. Superchargers/Turbos/NOS, Make our cars from back in the day, Look pretty slow. Sure was fun though!!

I do a small amount of consulting for a dyno shop here in town. Some of the stuff I see is good and some bad.
I have seen 725RWHP on an otherwise stock looking (and sounding) LS6 from the outside of the car.
I like the technology that I see in some of the applications. That said I am still an "old school" guy and the ranks of us that understand the old stuff are falling by the wayside. I have a neighbor that has a 69 Z-28 that runs like crap. He looks to be in his 20's and has no clue how to fix it.
He takes it out a few times a year and all it does is sputter and cough. I may help him out this summer. :smoke:
My 72 GTO makes 385RWHP at 6000' and I am very happy with it. And except for the headers it is # matching and looks totally stock.:scratch2:

I also use the "Keep it simple" philosophy. The end of this year another project will start, (Early 70's Camaro). With the wealth of parts out now, No need to get to crazy to achieve 700-800hp. BTW, Please fix that guys car!
What does man have left??
We need something..Dont we?

Sorry, we only got one thing left, and that can be changed as well:D
I personally dig the fact that women are doing great in area's otherwise dominated by men, Danica, Ashley, Mikka(sp) with 5 doctorates:thmbsp: and an up and coming Indy car racer as well(did Indy & Cart merge? I've fallen behind, sorry:sigh:) Time trials today at Indy:banana::banana: guess I'll find out!
Hey Danica, come on over and play with the 'boy's in NASCAR:yes: Just from a financial standpoint, she could bring 2 trailer's full of merchandice and, sell'm both out!! I'd proudly fly her flag right next to Tony's on the front porch, hell I'd even wear a smokin' hot T-shirt at the track(as long as the color doesn't clash with the orange hat:D)
Let's go racin', boy's and girl's:smoke:

Sounds like the neighbor kid needs a tune-up and his carb(s) re-built !
Pretty impressive #'s for a '72 Goat......it takes more than Headers to make that kind of power from a smog motor, is it fair to assume you have made a cam change, more compression ? ! Also I assume it's a 455 ??
With respect to the Force family, and amazing success story for sure ! Not taking anything away from Ashley, Tim Wilkerson's success of late is also quite impressive, IMO
