hello, just joined ak, and i have limited knowledge on vintage audio. would greatly appreciate any feedback on this reel to reel i just got. i want to use it for recording acoustic stuff and vocals. i really have no idea what i'm even looking at, i was born in the tape/cd era. i have tape but don't know how to set it up. it's almost embarassing what i don't know. any advice would help. thanks in advance.

I'm not clear on what your question is here. I would suggest that you try asking just one or two specific questions per thread. Open-ended questions like this don't tend to get the best responses.

sorry for the ambiguity on my part, as you can see i don't know too much yet. specifically, i can get the unit to play a tape but it plays really slow, there's only a slow/fast switch and i have it on fast, to no avail. it worked when i bought it so i don't think it's anything major, maybe something i'm doing wrong.

Hi,

This machine uses a sleeve for higher speeds made out of metal. It slips on the capstan. There is a post on this machine for storage of it. Check and see if you have one. If not, you'll need to scrounge one from a junker.

i looked all over, unless i have to take off the back cover and look in there. the only piece i have is a smaller rubber wheel that i put on and then there was no playback at all. thanks for the quick response and sorry again that i don't know what i'm doing.
