I bought this from AK member johncan, & was a little stressed about shipping from Georgia to Washington state, but that turned out fine. Thanx to his great packing, the only thing Fedex was able to damage was one of the plastic feet. :thmbsp: I recently scored some nice Trusonic 15" speakers, which are 16 Ohm, so it took a little time looking at the speaker terminals on the receiver, but it wasn't too bad at all. I intended to just hook it up to make sure everything was working right, but it sounded so good, that before I knew it, 3 hours had passed. :D I feel very fortunate, having aquired some of the best gear ever made, & sincerely thank the audio gods. :ntwrthy:

Fisher 600 tube receiver is a nice sounding unit, congratulations on your good taste & its safe arrival in Washington after a long and perilous journey from Atlanta.

I had a chance to hear crackerkorean's 600 a couple of years ago driving 15" Karlsons. Sounded very nice.
Glad yours arrived safely!:thmbsp:

Which 600 receiver are you referring to. Sadly, Fisher messed around with model numbers at extremes. I have a 600T. Is yours all tubes or the hybrid tube/ss?

Thanx guys. :smoke: The only problem so far is, I'm finding weaknesses in my speakers, but only in setting up the highend right. I find that by using 15"s, there's definitely no shortage of bass, and setting the bass & treble knobs almost all the ways down REALLY brings out a nice midrange. Once I figure out which horns & caps to use, I'll be set. But the speakers are pretty new to me too, & weren't really tuned in right, so it'll all come together.

This one's all tubed, including a tube rectifier. The front says simply "The 600", with no suffixes.

His 600 (and this 600, the one that was John's) both sound EVEN BETTER than they did then, now. :thmbsp: Once Don (BrassTeacher) gave them a tune up (a few new caps, replacing a weak tube or two) they sounded just like "baby 400s" to my ears... and that's HIGH PRAISE, IMHO. Seriously NICE dynamics!
Sometimes it's hard to believe that these output tubes are SUPPOSED to only be about 15w/ch!! Shhh.... nobody TELL them, and they'll keep crankin' it out, right? :D
Regards,
Gordon.

I've got the sister receiver, the Fisher 500-S model. Uses the same 7189's as the outputs. Sweet receiver. Mono FM is superb, but which I could affort the MPX adapter. They go fow WAY TOO MUCH on ebay.

GordonW, this thing doesn't NEED any more power, with good efficient speakers. I haven't even been up to 10:00 on the volume yet, & it just shakes the room. :D Am I right in thinking this has AM stereo? It sure looks & sounds like it, both speakers play & it sure sounds like stereo seperation to me. I did find a problem though, the phono input makes a nasty sound after a couple minutes. I'll be reading up on that, but if anyone has info to share, I won't mind. :smoke: BTW, the TT I'm using (or trying to use) is a Pioneer PL-630, which works great on my SS amp..

I just saw this post . . . I have a Fisher 600T. I got it from my dad, with box, manual, and the tag is still on the power cord. I have to replace some fuses tomorrow, but there is an insert in the manual that says this is rated at 110 wpc. I'm looking forward to seeing how this sounds. My dad used to have some AR2's hooked up, but I was kid then, and can't remember that sort of thing.
Are you enjoying yours?

The 600T will more than likely need a recap. These were the earliest of SS designed receivers, in fact it is a hrbrid with a tube FM front end. Because of that unless it has been in continious services, it should be brought up slowly on a variac as it will have high voltage caps in it. When you run it, if the transformer starts to get hot, turn it off as it is an dication that the unit needs work. These receivers are a might of a challenge to get up and running but as you have it you will see when compared to other units, it makes the stuff from the later '60s and '70s almost in the category lovers of units from that period feel about BPC from the '80s. For those who have not had a chance to see the TFM300/TX300/600T, these are possibly the pinnicle of design, cast front plates and backplates, beautifully built though not service friendly b/c of the wiring to the PCBs.
My 600T is in need of serious tlc but I've run the TFM300 and TX300 that are the tuner and integrated amp that make up the 600T and they sound somewhat dated, neither typical classical tube noe what we typically associate with solid state devices but once you let your ears adjust the pair sound quite good.

kenwood61, that's probably a nice unit, but not the same, as Brian pointed out. Like others have said in a FEW threads, Fisher liked to confuse us with their model #s. :D

What output tubes are you TA-600 guys running? Anybody got original 7189s? I've got Telefunken EL84s and I wonder if 7189s sound any different.
I have a hard time hearing any non speaker-induced differences between my 400 through Cornwalls and my 600 through the full-range Audio Nirvana 10s mounted in my console. Obviously the 400 sounds better through the Cornwalls but I suspect that the 600 would sound similar if I hooked it up. (I'm going to have to try that sometime.) The 600:

Nice cabinet, looks great from the front. :thmbsp: Mine came with GE 7189s, & I've never tried any others yet. They sound great to me, but I wouldn't mind trying other flavors, if I found them. :smoke:
