View Full Version : Portishead - Third Vinyl at Best Buy
Zeromancer 05-02-2008, 05:14 PM I just ordered Portishead's new album on vinyl off Best Buy's online site.
It was only $14.82 including free shipping.
If you haven't heard of this band, I think you should check them out.
They started out primarily doing trip hop music but this album has moved almost out of that genre into a dark minimalist type album.
The more I listen to it (the cd), I love it more.
I just can't wait to hear how the vinyl sounds.

Zeromancer 05-02-2008, 06:10 PM Unfortunately it is on backorder and will take 1- 2 weeks to get here, which is no problem because I already have the cd of it.3
spartanmanor 05-02-2008, 06:12 PM Great band! I heard them live about 5 years ago, amazing concert.
Klownschool 05-02-2008, 06:32 PM All over it. Two record set of tasty, spacey goodness. Thanks for the heads up.
Rex Everything 05-02-2008, 09:41 PM After I recover from my recent vinyl purchase I'll be grabbing this album.
I read a very cool article about the recording process and the gear used by the two guys in the band(don't know there names off the top of my head).

blownsi 05-07-2008, 03:33 AM what was the 2nd?
thedelihaus 05-07-2008, 03:53 AM I grabbed the Cd. It's fantastic in theory. But the sound is poor on CD.
Oh, and certain record stores are giving out a white 45rpm vinyl single-sided single with that etched graphic like mentioned above.
Picked mine up at Newbury Comics and got the neat-o single.
Zeromancer 05-07-2008, 06:45 AM what was the 2nd?
1st album Portishead - Dummy
2nd album Portishead - Portishead
3rd album Portishead - Third
Zeromancer 06-02-2008, 10:51 PM Just got the album in today.
It definitely sounds better on vinyl.
CD was boomy and harsh sounding.
This album was made to be heard on vinyl!
JohnVF 06-03-2008, 12:38 AM I heard it at a record store a couple days ago, the whole thing pressed on two discs at 45rpm. Sounded amazing.

I'm dissappointed in the CD.
For such an amazing band with such attention to detail, I'm amazed they flubbed the CD pressing as bad as they did. Boomy and harsh- you nailed it.
I'd even add abrasive.
Glad such a great collection of songs isn't lost completely to a bad CD pressing.
Sounds like the vinyl is worth checking out.

:thmbsp::music: I agree
The quality of the vinyl is amazing. Good quality and sound.
winters860 06-03-2008, 08:58 AM If you're going to go to the trouble of ordering an LP for local pickup, I'm sure your local indy record store would've appreciated the business more than BB. :thmbsp:

I got it for $15 shipped.
My local indie record store had it for around $25.
I was just patient for it to get shipped to my house since it was backordered (didn't do the in store pickup).
Seems like the vinyl sold alot more than they expected.
drone 06-03-2008, 06:44 PM Speaking of Portishead , you can hear 3 live tracks off the new album
on Gilles Petersons show here:
