Has anyone besides me had the pleasure of getting ripped on Brennivin ..Icelands traditional schnapps ? Best served chilled at 0 degrees C.
Nicknamed "Black Death" the taste is ....bitter. But after a couple shots it really doesn't matter. It is traditionally drank in conjunction with the eating of a very foul tasting, putrified shark meat....I about gag when I think about it. The photo is of Brennivin..On the rocks..of course..:D

Yeee... I dunno...
Seems I saw something on the tube about that shark meat. They have to let it rot - errr... I mean age, otherwise there's so much of something in it that it's actually toxic.

I think you were right the first time"rot" it smelled like rotting meat that someone pissed on..and thats putting it mildly.
I do enjoy a shot or two of brennivin now and then "without the shark".:D

I tried one piece of shark just to show Bjarni and Siggi that I wasn't afraid to try it.It took three shots of brennivin to get rid of that awful taste. What a terrible hangover I had the following day..I'm sure I didn't stop at three shots and I can't remember if I ate anymore of that awful shark either..:dunno:

I've had fresh shark meat on the grill. It was good. I don't know about that booze though.

Your description of the shark meat sort of reminds me of my last big mac. I think the girl in the window peed in the bag just before she handed me my lunch with an empty wish for "a nice day".

I'd sip the booze, but would also prefer the shark meat fresh. I'd try it, that rancid shark pudding, but I doubt I'd grab a plate of it.

Throw a shot of 151 rum in there for something really good, Mitsu. As for the Black Death I think I saw Anthony Bourdain drinking that once on his show. I've never had the pleasure (or the pain) myself.....................R1:music::yes:

2 shots of 151 Bacardi with a raw egg smothered in tabasco sauce floating on top. :puke:

After that I'd shy away too! Honestly though, it's good with the Rump. Other than with Coke that's the only way I'll drink it. And that's not too often. My liver is bad enough, thank you! To each his own:yes: And with that said if I'm drinking Schnapps it is Rumpleminz. Good stuff!...........R1:music:

Ahh,good ole apple schnapps. I helped my landlord in Oberwiess pick apples from his orchard.Everything we picked was taken to a fellow in the village that made schnapps out of apples and pears.I got 2 litres of schnapps every Friday around 5 pm and was totally shitfaced by 6..

It is.
That's why you have to soak shark meat before you cook it.

I'll never understand why the Scandavians waste perfectly good caraway seeds to flavor booze.
Caraway seeds belong in rye bread. :)

I bought a bottle of it when I was in Iceland a few years back, besides the one sip I had it has been untouched. I offered a shot to my friend from Iceland last time he visited. He told me that it needed to be frozen, put it in the freezer and next visit he would have some. And I haven't seen him since....

I just cracked open my bottle and took a shot. OMG, This stuff is going back in the freezer for quite a while. Probably for about 11 years until my kid is 16 and he raids it to drink with his friends.
