View Full Version : good download site?
screenersam 05-03-2008, 04:23 PM what's a good music download site? I don't want to pay $10+ a month; ok to pay $1 or so per song; I have had bad luck with Amazon downloads (half the songs are corrupted); Wal-Mart is good but their selection is small.
any ideas?
I want to avoid p2p like Limewire (I tried that; too inconsistent, esp with hard-to-find stuff).
any ideas?
vinyldavid 05-03-2008, 04:24 PM here's what I do instead.
I go to the goodwill, and friend's basements.
I get vinyl on the CHEAP, usually less than $1 per record, and that's the way I enjoy my music.
Highly recommended
Also, it's legal. I have some music that LimeWire could never dream of having. :D

iTunes can play just about anything....
I think that apple only allows AAC downloads. Too low of bitrate to interest me....

d-ray657 05-03-2008, 05:05 PM I use emusic.com, but it is a monthly fee. The best deal to me is 19.99 for 75 downloads. It has very little of the big stars, but a lot of indie music. It also has a lot of historical and roots music. I have discovered some artists that I otherwise might not have heard of. It also was a good way to get an introduction to jazz. If you just want to find out what they have, you get 50 free downloads for signing up.:scratch2: Beware, however, you can kill a lot of time listening to samples.

D-Ray
BTW, no affiliation, and I didn't even ask to refer anyone.:nono:
fotno 05-03-2008, 05:10 PM Guys, remember that P2P file sharing is illegal, and against AK forum rules.
Reserve your recommendations in this thread to legal file-sharing outlets only.

More and more selections are available at the 256 kb/sec rate. At that point, the difference between CD and the downloaded file is very minor.
JJJimmy 05-03-2008, 06:31 PM Sorry...too many Mint Juleps, and not enough brain cells in action.

Thanks fotno for posting this before I saw it.
Guys, follow this advice or the thread will get canned. No exceptions.

hifi_nut 05-03-2008, 07:19 PM This Canadian Site (http://cdnav.com/free_&_legal.htm) seems to be an all legit and free download source.
Will V. 05-04-2008, 10:16 PM Well, if we're listing free and legal download sites, there is http://www.archive.org/, the internet archive. The technical quality of the digital files is variable, but they have some indie and obscure stuff. Some of it may be interesting, depending on your tastes. They also have free and legal movies, too, mostly old movies for which the copyrights have expired.
