It's been a couple of weeks since I first posted about this "new" turntable.
First off, Thanks to Howard (hakaplan), Rich (pustelnaikr), John (Stanton 681EEES), SA-708, mike0565, Bigerik and Vinyldavid for their advice, valuable suggestions and comments. The PL-610 is up and running and it's GREAT:banana:
For the arm-lift repair, I used a modified version of Rich's suggestion. I modeled the missing section using epoxy putty, did final shaping with a scalpel and needle files, then painted it to match. Will try to get close-up photo's this evening. Works like a charm.
Using Rich's great posts on re-habing the 630, I cleaned, lubed, de-oxited (is that a useable term?), etc. Did not replace caps nor refresh solder joints. I'm pretty good with mechanical things, but not very skilled at soldering, and didn't think this was a project to practice on. Finished it up last night, mounted a Shure 99e with the JICO n110he stylus -- You were right Howard, some "break-in" time and that offensive screechiness is gone -- put on some Randy Newman and just enjoyed:music: I'm really going to enjoy this turntable, an will have to update my signature.
On another subject, I went to a yard sale this Saturday and came home with a Pioneer CT-F9191, original box, except for a little dirt and grunge (which is now gone) it looks almost brand new! Does need a belt kit (which I'll order today). Pictures tonight.
Again, Thanks all! AK is the BEST!
