Hello everybody.

I'm sorry for cross posting. I also posted this question in Sansui and DIY forums, but I thought that maybe some highly knowledgeable people from this forum might not see those posts.
I got some fine answers, but I'm also interested to hear your opinions.

I also need some advice on checking and setting up DC offset and bias.

Well, I just won this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.ch/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290225231298

The seller says that this AU alpha 707DR is 100% new and never used and that he opened the original box just to take pictues.

This amp was manufactured around 1990-92.
So it is some 16-18 years old.

What can I expect when I turn it on after all this time?

Could its caps be all dried out?

I did a total recap on my vintage Kenwood KA-907 from 1979.

But if this Sansui is new and never used, it woud be a shame to rip all those fancy caps out (I heard that Sansui used only highest quality parts in those models) in order to replace them with new ones.
On the other hand, they might just look pretty on the outside, while being all dried out inside.

Does anybody have a service manual for this beast?
...Or knows how and where to check an set bias and how to adjust DC offset?! What are the original bias values?

Thanks in advance!

Aleksandar

Aleksandad, First Welcome to the forums, cross posting is frowned upon by the moderators, so yours will probably be combined, sometimes you have to be patient for the answers.
I'll take a go, a SS amp that has not been used in a long time, If it were mine I would plug it in and leave it on for about 24hrs, then hook up a pair of cheap speakers and a CDP, bring the volume up slowly and let it play for awhile. If all is well, turn down the volume and turn it off, if you hear a loud pop! Stop, and ask for help on where to look, sorry, I don't have a scematic, I'm sure you can find one though.
I'm gonna say It will amaze you with how good it sounds and will function for you! This will be due to all those high quality parts inside!
This is just my opinion.

1990 to 92 is only 16 to 18 years tops, do you think they would be dry in that time? I always thought caps went funky when they approach the 25 to 30-year vintage.

Or as my old girlfriend Sophie Tucker used to say "20 goes into 80, a hell'ava lot more than 80 goes into 20":D Man was that gal dry! (rim shot)

OP kuja, is is a joke in very bad taste, sorry!

Did you plug it in?
