Am curious - are they not 'balanced' since they are not the same?
Also, what do you do with scratchy 'reostats'?

The 2a is plywood and I think the 2ax is particle board.

I believe the 2ax has a slightly different ("improved"?) tweeter.

Typical of early ARs ... can be cleaned sometimes ... but usually need replacement or bypassing ... plan on on refoaming both woofers ... $30 is usually my limited for "matched" pair of AR-2ax's ... never run across any AR-2a's ...

I have a pair of 2a in the shop now. The 2a has two mids in an array. The 2ax has one small mid. The 2ax is a better speaker IMO.
