This may be a really stupid question...but, is Audio Reflex the same as AR turntables? I have a chance to buy one cheap, but I have no idea about this manufacturer. I also can't find too much information about Audio Reflex (and I have been looking).

Cheers

AR = Acoustic Research.

It was probably made by CEC, which made turntables for many companies in the early years.

What do you mean by cheap? What price? I wouldn't pay more than $25. I see belts for sale, but beyond that it is so uncommon that probably no one here could help you with any problem other than something generic.

yeah 25....I have AR speakers, I guess I just didn't think that they would be the same manufacturer. I learn something everyday. That's all I found were belts.
Thanks .. and I knew it was a stupid question.

Actually, I think Audio Reflex was made in Toronto, Canada. Ask the seller to tell you what is written on the back plate of the plinth. I bet it says manufactured in Toronto.

See lots of them around here, several models were sold.

I've turned over a couple so had an up close look. They aren't giant killers but are of reasonable quality, price should reflect condition and cartridge.

I beleive Hakaplan is correct, these were made by CEC. I remember seeing and hearing one some time ago, it was VERY similar to the Quadraflex QL-400/410 and TransAudio series turntables which were also made by CEC for Pac Stereo. Not a bad table, Probobly the equivilent of a Pioneer PL-12D or so.

Nope, one of the other posters was correct: it was a stencil line for CEC tables, imported into Canada by a company based in Toronto.

They also had a line of cheap speakers and a couple of low-end receivers, as "opportunity" buys presented themselves to the owners.

None of it was made in North America.
