I was on the J&R Music World website this evening, looking at headphones, & this appeared on the top of the screen when I selected a pair to look at:

"Important Messages
• The following product is restricted and cannot be purchased on our website at this time:
( TDK SA904+1 ) TDK SA90 90 Minute Cassette Tapes--5 Pack
You may call 800-806-1115 for more information or to place your order."

Wouldn't you know, I was just about to check the price on those? I wonder if they have limited quantities or what the deal is?

I thought that I had read somewhere that TDK had ceased production of new audio cassettes several months ago. :scratch2: So if they have them at all, you might want to purchase these now, before whatever remaining inventory there may be dries-up...

FYI - I'm not certain of my facts here. So this may or may not be true.

Apparently, they still make a full line of audio cassettes, according to their website:

http://www.tdk-media.com/consumer/audio/index.html

So if that's the case, what gives with J&R?

Back in the 70's when I was in TX I bought alot of stuff from them through the mail, later when I lived in NYC, I'd pop in and, once bought the SAE amp,pre and eq, they bound all three boxes real nice with a carryin' handle for me to stuggle through the 3 subway rides back to the apt. (I spent all my cash, none left for a taxi) I have nothing bad to say about J&R, only:thmbsp: Call them tomorrow and let us know what's up!

It's been a while since I've bought anything from them. That's where I got my Technics turntable & 5-disc CD player, as well as that crappy Sherwood receiver (my fault, not their's; I should have just ponied up the extra $60 or so & got the nice one). Always liked dealing with J&R, never a problem. I think they're just not going to carry any more TDK cassettes. They used to have a real good selection of blank tapes (as did a few stores back in the day). Up until 7 or 8 years ago, you could still get Maxell reel-to-reel tape there.

Too bad, their prices while good, can't match the get 'em for .25 apiece at thrifts and so on. j chavin has been cleaning up where he lives(yes Eric, still jealous:D) and a caveat(maybe) I think the NOS formulations sound better IMHO anyway than the new ones. And I'm picky, just gotta find me a Dragon or my old SAE C101 for cheap:D

"I have nothing bad to say about J&R"

They have excellent mail order customer support. I've ordered a few things online from them recently, and in one case, I received it the next day! They are very good about returns too.

I am not sure why it would be restricted.

I looked and I don't see any type II tapes on their website at all.

I checked my other web sources for Maxell XLII-S tapes I have picked up i nthe past, but they no longer listed them either. There are still quite few who list TDK SA tapes though.

I am glad I stashed a few tapes when I did.
