View Full Version : Who was the tall thin guy with the bag of records??
MrGee 05-06-2008, 04:42 PM There was a tall thin guy with black hair who had a KICKIN copy of Allman "Laid Back" that was a Capricorn pressing, with a sound that I NEVER heard before.
He was carrying a canvas bag of sweet vinyl, all bagged in protectors and el perfecto.
I would very much like to contact him for details on the other vinyl he had with him. Are you on the site here?
KeninDC 05-06-2008, 04:49 PM Dude. A bag of pink Capricorn ABB LPs?
Are you sure you were not hallucinating?
Drybasement 05-06-2008, 05:12 PM Your description sounds like AK member Zoeinterloper. That'd be my first guess.

Mike
jcmjrt 05-06-2008, 10:50 PM Rob always has good records. He has a wonderful pressing of Van Morrison's Moondance too.
Cosmos 05-06-2008, 11:54 PM What is SMAC??
(Southern Michigan Audio Club...???)
Yes. Southern Michigan Audio Club. An open group of folks who get together about once per month at one of our homes.Great times with great people. Unfortunately, due to my schedule and distance from the Detroit area, I don't get to make too many of the meetings, but they are fun! If you are local and want to give it a try... contact AK member Jeff Mathers "Jmathers" on AK, and request that you be added to the monthly meeting email notice. He'll get you setup and you'll get notified of our upcoming meetings by e-mail.. Jeff Rocks!:thmbsp:
MrGee 05-07-2008, 01:07 AM I wish I could be a part of that, but I am more than too far away. Thanks for the offer though :)
NOSValves 05-07-2008, 08:55 AM Man the secret of "Rob the DJ" is out.... I can see now that we need to clone him about 10 times.

better yet, clone his vinyl collection...though 10 new Rob's would probably be less expensive...:)
cheers,
Douglas
zoeinterloper 05-25-2008, 12:02 AM Hey all, I understand there's a little fuss goin’ on in these parts about some alleged tall dark stranger slingin' first pressings and white label promo’s on unsuspecting turntables where ever he goes?! Nop, never heard of him. He, he, he! (At this very moment, what would Clint Eastwood do?) I could probably pass a word or two along to him, if we happened to cross paths…
Happy (hot stamper) Listening! :beatnik:

Was that you that had the Shawn Phillips album? That's all I've been playing for a couple of weeks now. :thmbsp:

No, that was John Wolff's album (Classic Audio Reproductions). We were having a conversation about Shawn Phillips album Second Contribution 1971 and such... I don't remember the title John was playing. I believe it was more recent.
Happy Listening! :beatnik:
Wolverine 05-25-2008, 08:01 AM SMAC huh...
Had I only had the money to buy Grandparent's house in Melvin I could have been a member. As everyone in South Eastern MI knows all audio roads run through Melvin... :)
Bonus point for finding that little burg on the map...
All kidding aside it sounds like a great little gathering.
jaymanaa 05-25-2008, 12:11 PM I dunno, I hear most of those guys listen to old outdated tube stuff.:D
zoeinterloper 04-23-2009, 09:55 PM Funny thing is I'm not, nor do I care to be a DJ, I just have the distinct pleasure of having a whole lot of friends with empty turntables that let me indulge myself, yes, and spread a little music around in the mean time.
Well it's a week or so 'til AK Fest and I have every intention of dragging as many vinyl records as that bag will hold this year and look forward to spending time with all of you!
Maybe we can have a little fun and catch a cold one or three between listing sessions.
I understand our SMAC audio group has several rooms to regroup and hear some sweet home brewed audio. Don't miss them, I sure won't. Given that and all the great vender rooms makes for the best fest yet.
It's been a challenging year, ah? and in spite of it all, thanks to many well wishes I have tried to increase my record collection by ten fold but, have probably fallen a little short... Wasn't that what you guys had in mind?!
I'll do my best to make my rounds...as always.
Happy Listening! :beatnik:

Hey Keg, I haven't forgot where it is that I came from and our core SMAC contingent. You got golden ears my friend and a habit for slinging solder with the right pieces in between, so you know I'll be hanging around. Whatever you got, I'm sure it will sound sweet...
Happy (AK) Listening! :beatnik:
