Was in the SA yesterday and came across a Chick Corea LP "Tones for Joans Bones". My jazz collection/knowledge is limited to say the least, it was in good condition and his name was familar. After initially passing I succummbed to the voice in my head that was saying "buy this LP" over and over again.....

........I'm so glad I did, this is one of the best things I've heard in ages, the music is amazing and the sound just leaps out of the speakers and fills the room (and I still havent cleaned it yet) Its not an OP, but an Atlantic reissue from 1976 (OP was in '68) as part of the That's Jazz series

best dollar I spent in a long time

I also got Brubeck "Gone with the Wind" and Mearle Haggart "Live at Muskogee.."

I had the opportunity to see Chick last year with Gary Burton on the 30th anniversary ECM gig for Crystal Silence...was outstanding.

Nice find. If and when I ever see Jazz at the thrift I always jump on it.

That's one reason I still have a turntable. I can go to a second hand store or Half Price Books and indulge a little. Two to five bucks means that I can look at an album, scratch my head a little and then, what the heck, grab it snd see if I like it.

Also don't forget your public library. Mine in Indianapolis has a rather wide selection of stuff and I can check them out, sit back and listen. That is where CD's are really coming in handy because the records they usually had were scratched up pretty badly, but most CD's are playable and won't damage your equipment. Then buy the CD if you really like it.

Until a couple of weeks ago I'd never listened to Chick Corea. I borrowed the Return to Forever CD from the local public library and I am very impressed.

Are his other albums in a similar vein?

So that's where they're all going! :D

Chick Corea, great stuff! Romatic Warrior on vinyl is one of my favorites. I have one with Gary Burton - Crystal Silence which is great too.

His stuff with Burton is outstanding. Also, all of the ECM releases I have are stellar, especially "Return to Forever."
