Because it's Grateful Dead music, which in my book, belongs in the burn pile. IMHO. :D
Now, that being said, I just picked up 50 Maxell UDXLIIS-90's off a guy that were once used, and the "once use" was to record Grateful Dead shows live. There's a whole series of them from CA shows in 1983-84. I had planned to bulk erase them and tape over them with <cough> good music, but now I'm in a quandry, since I'm sure some of the stuff is one-of-a-kind recordings. Unfortunately, as stated above, Grateful Dead has never (until now) been in my play library. I listened to two of the tapes the other day and was bored to tears. Not that I'm expressing a negative opinion on Grateful Dead, but in response to the CL ad above, I sure as heck wouldn't give them to the guy, since I paid for the tapes as blanks.

I don't hate the Dead. I actually like some of their early stuff, American Beauty and Workingman's Dead in my opinion are good albums. The poorly recorded live stuff I have no interest in and most of the music they did after the mid 70's I could give or take.
I guess I found this ad funny as it does seem to exemplify what I remember of the Dead Heads from back in the 80's when I used to make fun of them. The free part just sent the whole thing over the top. I have since learned to appreciate aspects of the Dead's music. Their following I don't get.

...when I used to make fun of them.
Still ongoing out here. I don't hate their music, I've just never had any interest in it.

Stand in line for that privilege. It's a long line.

I'm not a Grateful Dead fan either, but I'm inclinded to say you might want to digitally archive that music before you record over it. I'm sure most of it is unavailable from any other source and it should be preserved for the future! Just my $0.02. :D

Therein lies the quandry. Not to be a thread-stealer, so I'll start a new thread topic.

Hey, I don't mind you jumping in on this thread but you will get more response with a subject header about the tapes.

Well, a dead-head wouldn't pay for bootlegs for moral reasons. But he has no problem listening to them. After all, they say every performance is unique, right?

Deadhead fans can be pretty hardcore in collecting their music. Some have everything and anything recorded by the Dead or at least they are tyring too. It's like talking to God (Jerry).

A question for you guys that hate the Dead... What kind of music do you like? BTW the quote from craigs list is lifted from an album cover.

A true deadhead would have bartered for the tape.. yes.. there are a lot of freeloading heads.. but many work on the barter theme... amazing what a hit of sid just might put in your belly once you come down...
