View Full Version : A small victory at the swap meet today
sqdlvr 05-10-2008, 05:39 PM After being duped on Ebay...I had a little victory: I found the following lps and they were all in NM/EX condition all totaled to $25.00:
Lou Reed - Walk On The Wild Side The Best Of Lou Reed (Best Buy Series)
Elvis Presley - Blue Hawaii (Best Buy Series) (Still Sealed)
The Monkees - Picses, Aquarius, Capricorn, And Jones, LTD (Mono, Still in Shrink Wrap)
Cooper, Stills and Bloomfield - Super Session (Reissue)
Pablo Cruise - A Place In The Sun
Michael Jackson - Got To Be There (Brit Import)
Village People - Sex On The Phone (Swede Import)
High Inergy - Keep On (Brit Import)
Shiela B & Devotion - Singing In The Rain (Brit Import)
and the best one of them all (of course for my Dad)
THE LETTERMEN - I HAVE DREAMED - (STILL IN SHRINKWRAP)
I was so excited over this one I was kinda shaky and drove home really fast, cleaned it up put it in a new inner and outer plastic and handed it over to him. He's busy playing it now...LOL...If you all could've seen the smile on his face when I said I thought of you and picked this up!!! It was worth it!
Now to clean the lps I bought for me and put a smile back on my face after being duped and a awful week at work!!!
kermit z 05-10-2008, 08:31 PM Great score for sure. And very cool for your dad and you to share a cool moment that will be with you for a very long time :)
And The Monkees still in shrink wrapped and Elvis sealed, wow:drool:

As corny as this may sound...I guess I had the look that my dad would have when he would come home from work with a new album for me when I was a kid...(this was before buying my own)...The Elvis was a reissue....but still, it was sealed what could I say...it was taken from me from my Mom who replaced her old played out copy...LOL...
no1maestro 05-10-2008, 09:59 PM There are still real treasures out there if you have patience and you don't give up. Congrats to you for your find.
I came across 16 Living Stereos in great shape today(classical) and they charged me the grand total of $16.00 even though two of them were multiple disc opera sets. A quick perusal of the price guides sets the value at about $1200.00. I know that might be a little inflated but for 16 bucks I will keep on looking!!!
kermit z 05-11-2008, 10:28 AM I know the look :) I used to get it when my mom would return with a new album for me. I know she was a little leary about KISS but never questioned me and would just smile and say "This jumped into my cart at the base"
Gosh, I better call her today.

Hey my Mom and Dad used to say that too....I guess we military brats share something in common...Yeah my Dad and Mom were leary also of the 60's bands they bought for me...thankfully during Kiss era, I was already buying my own albums...however when my Dad would say what album did you buy and I'd show him...whatever it was I bought that Sat at the Exchange...The eyebrow would go up and when my Mom would see Kiss...she'd say...hmmmm....just don't get nightmares and don't forget to pray before bed....wonder why she never said that about the Bay City Rollers....ha ha... parents gotta love em!
Fletch 05-11-2008, 03:33 PM I picked up a MINT copy of Nazareth - Hair OF The Dog for $5 at the local market. A little on the high side but the sellers were very nice. He had some amazing LPs.
Congrats on you finds - your dad must be proud!!!!!!

Too funny, when my mom saw the KISS Alive II album cover she said the same thing. You going to have nightmares tonight:)

My mom is a strict Catholic and when she saw a Kiss poster in my brothers room she made him take it down and said it had no place in the house and if he wanted to hang it up, hang it in the garage...LOL..It was the bi-centenial poster...she also said she was gonna pray for us...LOL...My dad was some what cooler and just rolled his eyes and said...calm down dear...it's just a phase...but he really hated the music...and she said I'd rather have those nice scottish boys The Bay City Rollers!! LOL

Urchinn 05-11-2008, 10:24 PM I think cool vinyl will be popping up for a long time. Heck, I find cool 78's a couple times a year (I find crappy 78's every month). Just two days ago I happened across 4 vinyl Springsteen bootlegs at the Salvation Army. I'm not a big Springsteen fan (or detractor), but I just had to buy them. Future trading item, perhaps...
Fletch 05-11-2008, 10:32 PM KISS - you mean Knights In Satan's Service??
My mom warned me of them also. I have successfully stayed clear all these years. Mom's have that weird Jedi thing anyway. "Kiss is bad. It is the devils work." "Yes mom."

LOL I just got off the phone iwth my mom and told her about this thread. She said "I remember those covers were ugly. That guy with his long tongue sticking out was awful. That was the devils work. What were the songs about" Honestly, I really liked the music and never really listened to the lyrics:D

The price guides are out of date. Most LS titles are down, but a few are up.

LOL...My mom even went to the extreme that if we went to confession to make sure we told the priest we listened to Kiss and it was the devil's music, it's like dabbling with the occult...blah blah blah...LOL...She saw my brother's Black Sabbath albums and made him get rid of them...(now those were satanic)....LOL...I guess our Mom's (and we love them dearly) were like those in that movie Detroit Rock City...ha!
