I got a direct disc record at my local antique mall today for $2.00. The album is Cadillac and Mack by The Detroit Four. I've never heard of them, but I wanted to hear how this type record sounds compared to the normal records.

Dear Tube,
Is that an old Roberts 770X I see in your avatar?

I think that is an AKAI M7. Not mine it was a picture I found on the internet. The record sounds great and is in near pristine condition. Clearly this one was owned by someone who took very good care of their vynl. It was made by East World and distrubited by Audio-Technica.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a Direct Disc? Is it a brand name like a CBS Half-speed mastered record?

It is a process where they skip the tape entirely and record directly to the master disk.

I have about two dozen 'direct to disc' LPs, some old, some new pressings. The Sheffields, Gryphons and Analogue Productions have all been excellent pieces of really great music.
