View Full Version : Music guilty pleasure
NAD613 05-11-2008, 02:41 AM I like different kinds of music. About 15 years ago, I was big into classic rock (Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd), but I also like jazz, bossa nova, classic country, late 60's-early 70's soul music, orchestral pop, etc... I also like 50's & 60's vocal, i.e. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Petula Clark,....and.......
....Mitch Miller.
I know, I know; exactly how white am I & how sharp are my corners because I'm so square? Well, all I can say is that his tunes are catchy & easy to sing along with, hence the whole "Sing along with Mitch" phenomena. If you want to rip me to shreds, I understand, but I'll still like Mitch Miller music.
Art K. 05-11-2008, 03:08 AM Hey, I listen to Caterina Valente...what room do I have to talk!!!
Sandy G 05-11-2008, 07:22 AM Nothin' wrong w/Mitch...
My Nephew and I call those artists our musical skeletons (closet fame). Some of mine are Doris Day, Abba, Carpenters, and others, plus the numerous sugary pop hits from the 60's, 70's and 80's that I enjoy. All artists that at one time or another were put down by musical snobs (sometimes myself!). Enjoy your music especially the stuff you enjoy listening to.

chuckworkb 05-11-2008, 07:45 AM I just found a Sing along with Mitch LP at Goodwill.
It was like seeing an old friend.
When I was a kid the whole family would sing those songs.
I got it home, cleaned it up - and put it on the turntable.
They kids went running, and my wife started singing along with me.:D
I also like Frank Sinatra. My parents used to listen to him all the time.
That is good stuff.
I forgot to mention, I also like Ray Connif. Very good music. I just got the CD The Essential Ray Connif.
shrinkboy 05-11-2008, 10:14 AM a good part of my music collection is 'guilty pleasure' listening, or, as i call it, 'ironic listening' i.e. music that is bad...or corny...or completely and totally by and of an era covered over by the sands of time...but still....good, in the sense it brings a smile to your face and you're diggin' it anyway. but, i cant go MM, or Ray Coniff or Percy Faith, but i know where you're coming from
kermit z 05-11-2008, 11:01 AM I'm on the same boat. My taste are all over from Latin Salsa to Herb Alpert and Chuck Mangione on to Beethoven, Mozart and Bach. Then to Def Leppard and Judas Preist. I do take some heat from my friends
Sandy G 05-11-2008, 11:17 AM Ain't nothin' wrong w/Percy Faith, either. Or Englebert Humperdinck. Or Ed Ames. Or a WHOLE bunch more of 'em..Its what YOU like. Don't hafta apologise for that. Hell, I gotta Disney record that has "I Wanna Be Like You" from "The Jungle Book" in '67 that has Phil Harris, Sebastian Cabot, & Louis Prima singin' on it. Every now & then I'll put THAT on, & crank 'er up...You KNOW what they say about people who can't take a joke, don't you ? (grin)
JerryM 05-11-2008, 01:45 PM I admit I liked the Monkees. Pre-fab they were, but they had some good music written for them by talented songwriters. Boyce and Hart's "Valleri" is a great song. Killer guitar work (actually by Louie Shelton, not Mike Nesmith.)
