I went to a local vinyl spot yesterday and found an album from Kimberly Records titled This Is The Blues!!! Paul Bryant, Curtis Amy (cataloge #2020). Its from the Kimberly jazz series and in mono although it seems to have been released in stereo as well. The vinyl is in perfect condition and the cover seems almost new. Supporting musicians are Jimmy Miller-Drums, Roy Brewster-Valve Trombone and Clarence Jones-Bass.

I love the blues and not knowing anything about this and for only $3 I bought it. Well, Its more jazz than blues but really a bluesy jazz. Paul Bryant plays the organ and Curtis Amy the Sax and the combination of the organ-sax jazz is wonderful. This is the type of music I hear on the local college radio station KPLU on sunday evenings, long pieces that are just great toe tappers. The musical production is top notch and I'm very impressed with it.

Sunday morning I find myself spinning this again as its just intoxicating and I want to know more about this label as I see on the back side of the cover other catalog releases. A short trip thru google and I find this site that gives a little history on Kimberly Records.

Now that I have a little more information, I decided to look to the auction site and see what else is available and well, I bought two more of the Kimberly Jazz Series. I bought Southern Meetin' and Meet Chico Hamilton. I can't wait to get these two new platters in and give them a listen.

does anyone have other recordings in this series that they care to recommend?

I haven't run across a Kimberly title and I'm not familiar with them, but will keep an eye out. I have at least a couple of Chico Hamiltons on Pacific Jazz I think, great stuff. Used vinyl is affordable and fun

...here's to checking out more new stuff. :beerchug: :thmbsp:

Since chico is a drummer, i was expecting that his album would be more centered on the drums but nope, its just plain good ol fashioned jazz trio with piano, bass and drums. very nice

What era is it from? I was wondering if the Jimmy Miller on drums was the same one who produced the Stones in the early '70s. He played drums on quite a few Stones cuts...

Addiction....i don't have that, i can stop whenever i want!

btw, i've managed to get 4 of the kimberly label releases, they don't show to have too many, so far, i love each one. I'm on a quest to get more and have purchased a couple more from ebay.

....That's the thing i love about this hobby, ahem, addiction. You start out at one place and end up at another. It's the exploring and discovery that's the best. Serendipity for sure!

It is only an addiction, if you are trying to quit...
