For my first experience as a seller on Craigslist, this was ideal.

On Sunday night, I posted to sell a Yamaha CR-600 and Bose 2001 for $85, $55 or $130 together.

On Monday, I got an e-mail from a college kid who wanted to hear them. He brought his roommate (who had all of the stereo gear and was moving out) as his "agent." They liked the sound of the Bose, but didn't have the money for the receiver too, but needed one. I told them I had a Pioneer SX-450 that I hadn't cleaned up yet. They listened and bought the set for $100.

They were really nice college kids who weren't put off dealing with an old fart, "Thanks for going to all the trouble to set up the Pioneer." They left happy and excited, and I was happy to think that I might not take a big hit on all of my experimenting with different brands. Oh yeah, thanks to Bose for all of the advertising.

I feel kinda like Tiger winning his first Masters; after a start like that, it can only go downhill.

Regards,

D-Ray

Good Job!!! I've sold, and bought a lot through CL.. for the most part, always nice. I find buying is a lot easier than selling, but every now and then, you get one of those flakey sellers that has no clue how to sell something, if they want to sell something, or what it is they are selling....

As for being a seller, I find you find a lot of tire kickers that only want to waste your time. I have gotten to where I pick up on those really fast, and put it into simple terms to them. "Either you want it, or you don't. You have my price, so make a decision... I'm not going to haggle any more"

Seems to work for me... and I've met a lot of great people through CL..

Speaking of meeting nice people through CL. I found an entry by a very creative guy giving away a 27" TV. He told a story about raising it up from an etch-a-sketch, through the teen years of checking out Cinemax after hours, and that now that it was ready to move out, he just wanted to find it a good home. I wrote him back that after all of his care raising it, the least I could do was send it to college, where it would be a guitar hero, a football star, and might occasionally catch Cinemax after hours (but I probably wouldn't hear about that). He wrote me back that I was a mench and that I could have it.

Now I know what a mench is and my kid has a TV for the house he's renting at college next year.

There are great people to meet everywhere, particularly AK.

I've bought 3 or 4 things off CL and probably paid a little too much, but I could get them "right away" and most of the stuff was sold to me by 2 guys that refurb vintage equipment in my local area and I've told them to give me call if they come across something they "impulsively" bought but don't really want to hassle with cleaning it up and such. It's been worth my initial $$$ because they have been good for my "habit". Hopefully they will some day call me about a decent integrated amp for say $50-$75.

My best buy on CL has been about a 300 record set for $75 with half being decent shape 70's classic rock albums. I'm still going through them trying to figure out which ones to keep and which ones to sell on eBay. It's hard because most of them I'd like to keep around "just in case" I get the urge to hear something different and out-of-my-usual vinyl diet.

Wish I could sell on CL. Half my listings will not even post, and the other half get flagged after about 1 hour. :smoke:

Congrats D-Ray! I've had better luck in buying off CL, not selling.
