Every time I hear "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress" by The Hollies I get the urge to go take on the world or something...

What's your 'get pumped' song?

Scorpions, Coast to Coast. Used to play that before handball matches to get fired up and the rhythm stays with you almost like a metronome.

The "papa ooh mow mow" break where the drumming then kicks in again may be the best rock & roll transition EVER. Seriously.

Wow.. this is a hard one....

I really like Screaming for Vengeance by Preist... but then Swelling Itching Brain by Devo can really get me more in my normal strange self.. but then there is also Fight for Your Right if you want to do some real partying.. and Suicidal Tendencies seems to get me pumped up enough to end up in an institution with Institutionalized...

I won't dive off into some of the electronica sogs that really get me going too.. just too many favorite anti-establishment songs I like, that all get me feeling good... (do I need help?) :D

Man.. tough question..

Don't ban me for this, but among the ones I used to use to get "psyched up" for workouts were:

White Wedding, by Billy Idol
Born to be Wild, by Steppenwolf
Ride on Time, by Black Box (but only from a recording I picked up in Thailand that is about 5 percent faster speed than it is supposed to be!).

There were a few more (maybe one or two by Bon Jovi?) but I can't think of them right now.

How about Mickey (http://youtube.com/watch?v=1FeIF-7fhkE) for getting fired up for workouts?

hehehe.. bet that gets me banned :D

I usually listen to "Turn Up the Radio" by Autograph before my hockey games. Works wonders.

Back when I was tournament fighting it would be "Noise Brigade" by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

Now I have to mow the lawn, maybe I'll put them on the mp3 player and mow really fast.

"Surfin' Bird" by the Trashmen gets me going.

The "papa ooh mow mow" break where the drumming then kicks in again may be the best rock & roll transition EVER. Seriously.

This brings back memories. I used to be (and still am) into surfing music. I'd have parties that I'd make surf mix tapes for. When that one came on I'd have to stop what I was doing and get down.

Excellent selection.

Black Dog by Led Zeppelin is one of my choices. One of the ass-kickingest guitar riffs ever. The song shreds.

Whitey on the Moon
Who'll pay reparations for my soul
Black History/ The world - Gill scott Heron

I also get seriously hyped from a good peice of classical music.

5th symphony Dmaj
7th symphony Cmaj "Leningrad" -Dmitri Shostakovich

"Waldstein sonata"
Symphony #9 Dmin "choral"
Moonlight Sonata 3rd mov - The ole' "ludwig Van"

Goldberg variations
WTC book 1,2
Brandenburg Concertos (all of em)
Art of Fugue -JS Bach (In my humblest of opinions, the greatest musician that could/will ever live)

Nothing Gets me stoked quite like Baroque Music (im a little strange) so on that note i'll toss in Sweelinck, Buxtehude,Purcell, and Gibbons.

And a little Wagner now and then cant hurt, can it?

Pretty much same here to.

I also like these as well. To many to list but these are the few I can't help but to crank to chest pounding levels.

Hair of the Dog. Not a song to listen to after you get pissed at somebody as you may pay them a visit, lol.

Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress. Cranks to hi levels with ease.

Frankenstein. Good god, look out! Speaker parts could fly!

And couple country tunes.

Neon Rainbow. Just a good song.

"King Kong" -- live version (Zappa & the Mothers / Uncle Meat); this is in a driving 3/8 meter played basically 1 beat/measure. I knew guys on a liberal arts college / no scholarship football team who would put this on in the locker room before a game and beat up on stuff with whiffle bats to get psyched up --- and lose.

"(I think) Losin' You" -- Rod Stewart / Every Picture Tells a Story -- drum kit demolition

"Rock 'n' Roll" -- Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels. Best version by far (IMHO)

Guess it depends on your definition of "pumped up"- whether physical adrenaline or fast driving or mind-sharpening or booty chasing. I have a neighbor who gets a little too pumped up and rams his wife's car into the backyard with his truck after too much Godsmack and Busch. I used to work in the kitchen at an upscale restaurant after I got out of high school. The head chef had several tapes that he would play to get him pumped up. He would play this stuff over and over until it was driving everyone else crazy. After work one night the chef walks back into the kitchen and catches one of the other cooks going to town on a Journey tape with a kitchen knife. He had planned to cut it a couple of times and then stick it back in the tape deck.

As for what I listen to. Anything upbeat and fast. Although I don't care for a lot of metal and harder rock. I need some melody.

He could really play something to death to the point where you would want to start pulling your hair out. Somebody gave him the cd single of the Lords of Acid song The Rubber Doll Opus. The cd had around 5-6 remixes on it and I heard them all at least twice a night.

'Nile Song'; (early) Pink Floyd. I remember having that jamming on my old cassette player in my old pickup when I was stationed at Andrews AFB, cruising the back roads in the area. at one point the singer stops singing words and just goes 'aaaaarr'. suited my mood perfectly.

'Ready to Go'; Republica. one weird morning a few years ago I was getting some FM station from the Carolinas playing that; had never heard of them before. good stuff.

'Samba pa Ti'; Santana. starts slow, then, whoosh.

'Sleight of Hand'; Pearl Jam. also starts slow but builds to a tremendous climax.
"I'll see you on the other side
another man
moved by sleight of hand..."

I highly, highly recommend all the above.

"Rocker" by AC/DC. It's relatively short, but my blood is coursing something serious by the end.

Two others that could be in my list.. Just listened to both within the last month... I've got a pretty cool 12" single with several different versions of Feel for You... I blame the 80's for liking that song... :smoke:

"Target" by Fugazi

If I were to, say, ride a time trial in the Tour de France that would be the last song I would listen to on the trainer when warming up.
