2 shots vodka, cap full of sweet vermouth , 3/4 shot of lime juice , 1 shot of vanilla coffee syrup. Shaken, not stirred. Sounds gross, tastes like dessert. my wife likes it and she doesn't like Martini's.

And you like the 2 shots of Vodka part, right? ;)

Am I bad for that?

The International Standard Martini was developed at one of the conferences. Fill a standard martinin glass with quality Gin and stand it on a level surface. Stand a bottle of Dry Vermouth 1 foot away from the martini glass. Place a 60 watt light bulb 2 feet away from the bottle in a direct line from the glass. Illuminate the bulb for 15 seconds. Now you have a truly dry martini.

I thought you pour your gin into the glass, then pick up the bottle of dry vermouth and show it to the glass. A couple of seconds should be plenty. :)

I've also heard that you can put your gin into the martini glass, then take the cork out of the dry vermouth bottle and wave it over the gin.

The trend of calling anything that goes into a "Martini" glass is barbaric....
Can't people come up with new names for new drinks?
A MARTINI is gin and dry vermouth (amount of which is to individual taste )......end of story....
2 acceptable garnishes are pimento stuffed olive or a piece of lemon rind twisted over the finished cocktail so as to atomize the surface with the oils of the lemon skin...if you use a pearl onion, it is no longer a martini, but a Gibson....

An experienced Martini drinker well knows the sensation found as the 2nd round begins , as the 1st is taking hold......If that state could only be inhabited in perpetuity !

Foneman, I agree with you wholeheartedly. My bartender knows that it it's summer and I walk in, it's 5 parts Beefeater to one part Martini & Rossi dry Vermouth, shaken, not stirred and one olive.

Remind me some time to tell you about when I was drinking one at The Rising Sun in Yonkers during a Good Rats show......as I was ordering my 2nd, Peppi threw a rubber rat and hit me right in the kisser......

Ahhhh....Good Times !!!!

btw- I see that you are in Brooklyn....did you ever have a slice at DiFarra's at 15th and J.?

I have had both gin and vodka martinis, I personally find the vodka ones tasteles YMMV. But I do make a good gin martini. Be careful in the UK, my boss and I were in this restaurant and ordered martinis -we got a glass full of dry vermouth. The waiter said we should have ordered a 'martini cocktail'.
Mind you this was in the seventies, things may have changed.

As for the Good Rats, I just found out that I missed a reunion of the "classic" lineup at BB King's.:grumpy:

Believe me.. I've tried it around here too.. you won't find any Vodka fans if you are talking about a Martini... Myself I like a good Vodka shaken for a while with ice.. Is that a Martini? no idea.. but it looks good in a Martini glass with olives...

and wow.. a cap of vermouth???? whew.. maybe a spritz in the glass before pouring, or like mentioned, a bit from the cork..

HOWEVER.. my wife would probably really like this, so I just might have to try making some..

Bugger Gin Martini's. If I wanted floral lighter fluid, I’d add perfume to lighter fluid.... :D:puke:

Two jigger’s vodka one shot of Peach or Pear liqueur; Mathilde brand by name. :thmbsp::thmbsp:

Let the flame wars begin!!!

Its a personal taste thing. In the 80s I could chug a little gin and tonic. Now, whether expensive or hyper expensive, gin just tastes like Aquavelva or some other aftershave. Juniper smell, cant take it. I Like martinis just like Bond, James Bond did: Vodka, and shaken not stirred. Olives please. Just my preferences, to each, their own!

Both Vodka or Gin work for me. Years ago Gin was top of the two. A brand, I can no longer find was Boodles. Straight-up or on the rocks didn't matter, then, decap the vermounth, pass cap over glass of Gin and recap, DUN! After 4 who cares.
Enjoy!
(in moderation, yeh right)

Do people even know what a Martini is anymore? Hell my girlfriend will drink every kinda Martini there is as long as it's not a real Martini. Seems like the glass makes the drink now, not what's in it.
