Hello, I've just acquired a near mint condition TD 20A but the right channel isn't operating correctly. Who, other than Soundsmith is recommended for Tandberg service. Turn around time and cost are a high priority.

I'm in Utah, I have the original foam cocoon for shipping, so shipping isn't an issue.

Hi,

SoundSmith is the main repair shop left who specialize in Tandberg machines. What is wrong with yours! My wife is a former Tandberg employee and knows these decks well. We might be able to help ya.

It's either not recording or playing on the right channel, don't know which yet. All of the mechanical functions seem to be fine. I'll be getting a pre recorded tape soon, so that will help me in finding out whether it's the record or playback problem.

Soundsmith is very expensive($825), especially when they don't explain what they do on a rebuild.

Have you used Deoxit Faderlube on the sliders? My 10X responded well to this. There were spots where the sliders allowed dropouts in playback. Maybe your problem will be this easy to correct.

We can do it in Nashville TN. We repair, not refurbish! When you set your TD 20 up always remember that it is front heavy and likes to tip forward, breaking the feet and the reel locks.

Thank's Nakdoc, jblmar is going to work on it.

Those are very good sounding machines, and are well worth the effort to get going again. :thmbsp:
