I'm interested in making a passive preamp and it occured to me that the simplest way to do this would be to use an existing phono preamp for that part of it. So, I had a chance to pick up a Realistic 42-2101A cheap, and I did.

I assume this isn't a phono preamp that makes audiophiles swoon, although it looks well made (in Japan, at that) and is heavy for its size. What I'm curious about is if anyone has 'improved' one of these through recapping or other parts replacement and how good the results were.

Comments about the original preamp and any improvements AKers know about are welcome.

Did it come with a schematic? If not, post a picture of the inside.
