I have a Akai GX 260 D reel to reel which I bought in 1973 and it has had little usage. And I dearly love it.
Lately it has developed a speed problem THE BELT IS NOT SLIPPING --but I smell something funny coming out of it, like electrical.
A thread was done on this problem sometime back.
My question is this -----------IS THERE ANY REEL TO REEL SPECIALISTS OUT THERE WHO HAS A GOOD REPUTATION FOR WORKING ON THESE MACHINES?
I would like to send it to someplace or someone who can whip it back into shape.
Thanks James

Hi,

Stephen L. Bender is the guru on this series of Akai. They are very hard to work on electronically and mechanically. Will set you back some change. Transistors are well known as a weak point on this model.
