View Full Version : Another advantage of vinyl...
Sansui Louie 05-21-2008, 09:32 AM ...is that in this day and age, the tendency for albums to mysteriously 'walk' out of my home is about nil. :D
Of course, that wasn't always the case...as in college, circa 1981...

I always wondered where I got those extra albums, still sounding good.
Thanks:D
spartanmanor 05-21-2008, 09:58 AM Very good point.
kermit z 05-21-2008, 10:02 AM I notice alot of "writing" on the album covers compared to CD covers. Usually Eileen & Steve Forever. Dammit, forever turned out to be 7 months:tears:
Sorry, I digress...................:D
BrocLuno 05-21-2008, 10:52 AM With writing, they are even less likely to walk away :)
meggy 05-21-2008, 11:17 AM I don't know if I lost more albums in High School, College, or by Divorce. I'm thinking college. Even now, I run across something and go "Hey, I used to have that. I wonder where it went"?
Back in the school days, I used to exchange LPs with a friend there. I even got myself a proper handbag that could carry a few LPs along with the school stuff. About 10 LPs each time. Could carry about 40 CDs in the same space (with covers) or more than 80 without covers in a CD soft filler.
The size of LPs only made transfer slower and tedious. But, yes, with CDs I have lost some of those in the car, my wife's car, the summer house, everywhere. Thankfully, we have CDRs for some 15 years now, so I can use backups for the car.

I've got my dad's entire vinly collection in my office at home since he hasn't been listening to them lately. My mother is staying with my wife and I for a couple weeks.
So every time I play one of his records, my mom comes in and tells me to set it aside for her because she "really should have taken that one when they split".
So I guess the loss by attrition never really stops.
