Hey I rented the DVD Blade II last night and for the first time I saw in it's setup options the ability to choose a 6.1 surround format. That was kind of kewl. Made me want to hook up the sixth channlel off of my AVR just to check it out. Alas, since so few DVDs do this yet...I don't think I will bother with it. Plus it's my opinion for home use that 5.1 gives you all the separation that one needs. BUT on the other hand, hmmm if you were really high bucks and had a deticated home theater room maybe it would be what you would want.

Hey WW,
I have a dedicated Ht room and it took me 6 yrs and a brand new car to convince my wife that i needed 5 speakers and a sub. All kidding aside, i looked into the idea of putting in a back surround before i bought my lastest rcvr and my conclusion was that for the size of room i have i don't think it would make that much different. The new Kenwood thx select rcvr has 6.1 and it's only 700 cdn, not too bad. I'm very happy with five speakers
