I've been cleaning out the stuff and I found my old Pioneer SX 750. It works but has a scratchy pot. As I recall, I got it during the Ford Administration, maybe '74 or '75, and paid around $300. It was great when I played Van Morrison on it.
My question is if this is a decent unit. There are some friends of mine who are graduating ( or graduated) this year and next and I thought it would be neat to give them a decent vintage stereo system.
So is the 750 OK or should I give it to somebody I DON"T like?

It's a great little receiver. You should keep it if you want to enjoy great music, or if that's not a priority, give it to someone that you REALLY like and let them enjoy it. Depending on what you have already, it might not be an upgrade. What do you have now in the way of a stereo system?
BTW, welcome to AK!

In the bedroom I have a Scott 335R with Genesis speakers, and in the diningroom there's a Technics SA 425 with baby Infinitys. The livingroom has a Proton 950 with JBLs and the He-Man Girl Fighter's Club - one of my ex-wives called my TV room that - I have a Pioneer VSZ d498 again with JBLs, a Polk subwoofer and cheap little Sont surrounds. I use a single Ohm for the center because the other was destroyed and the guy was just putting it in the trash when I came by. $2 and it was mine. (I don't take things from the trash. Just funny that wat.)
I realize most of this is middle grade at best. I have some of the same units in the attic, most working, that I buught over the years like Sansui 2000s. I have two because I got one at a garage sale for $5, and a Marantz 2015 I just found.

Thanks for all the kindness from everybody here. I'd love to have a new friend but this one is going to my friend's daughter to setup her apartment when she graduates.
Any opinions about the other stuff? I have a pair of AR2 in good shape and a pair of AR 2AX that are repairable but are pretty well shot. I was thinking of matching these up with the 750.

I have to correct my first post here. What I meant was for some friends' kids that were graduating.
