Or bomb CL's HQ before I see another ad and make us drive up to Minneapolis. Drove 400 miles roundtrip today for these bad boys - Chicago has held unbelievably good karma for me. The latest addition to the fam: 9 Kappas. Except for the woofer surrounds and the typical polydome discoloration, LIKE NEW. Hooked em up and they sound great.

EDIT: all pictures reposted below

Luckily, the wife came with. It was nice to have her along and it lessened the size shock to see them already set up in the sellers' living room. It also helps that she was a Kappa in college :thmbsp: She isn't going to kill me now, but she's not letting me go scott-free. I have a terrible (or at least terribly difficult) decision to make! (I realize I may not get much sympathy... :o)

Kappa's or QLS1's????? I would love to keep both, but I don't know how I would get out of that without a divorce decree. And we JUST signed the papers for our first house, so I wouldn't come out of that in good shape, and not with ANY nice speakers, either...

And if the Kappa's weren't enough, I also picked up the whole system: a Carver C1 sonic holography preamp and M4.0t amp, a Denon DCD-810 cd player (first ten minutes has convinced me it's half BPC/half BMC), and some quality Monster cabling (at least a step or two above the only Monster stuff I've seen before). Going to sell both Carvers, unless the C1 can outpace my GFP-500, and probably the Denon.

The sellers were very nice and seemed to know full well that they could easily make a lot more money, but it seems they just wanted them out of the house ASAP. The gentleman got it all new, must've been in high school at the time ($$$$$$$).

Wow, now I need to sleep. Cheers, and wishing everyone else good karma!

-Chris

PS - This post shouldn't be construed as a for-sale ad for any of this stuff, especially the QLS1's and 9 Kappa's. Please hold the PM offers to buy either for now. I would appreciate honest advice, however. Thanks!

Sorry, just getting the hang of picasa and embedding images. the speaker pictures were taken where they're all staying for a while, in my father-in-law's basement near chicago. The QLS1's are about six inches taller, for reference in the second pic, but the Kappa's are much wider. They're probably 30 lbs lighter, I would guess.

thanks, tedrick! i think i better quit while i'm ahead.

on another note, i'm listening to the Carver's on my Q Jrs, and this would make a helluva garage or workroom system! the m-4.0t has amazing bass - my 545II is probably a little shy and this is probably a little much. yeah, i can hear the not-always-subtle hiss that i've heard about, but with the less-efficient Q Jr it's no biggie (it was terrible on the Kappa's). i would think it would be less noticeable on 8 ohm speakers, too.

Surrounds look rotten on the kappas.

Otherwise, nice!

I wish I lived closer to you... I'd offer up space in my house to "store" your Infinities so you could get them out of the in-laws way.

Very nice, congrats.

on a more solemn note, i implore my infinity obsession to cease and desist immediately. i've gotten everything that you've asked for! please let me study for my graduate physics qualifying exam for the next several months! haha, fat chance with these laying in the basement of my new house... cheers!
