I can't believe it is 35 years old. Wonderful, full powerful sound, great FM reception, clear and involving for every input. I'm playing my iPod through the Tape input and it's excellent (for an MP3). Also a great phono stage with excellent signal-to-noise specs. I REALLY LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKS! The blue dial numbers and orange light on the tuner needle are stunning. And so many neat things you can do with it and so many inputs. They really went all the way. They really knew what they were doing back then-and as a student I could never have afforded it. These were built to last and this is an excellent specimen. Thanks for all the help here.

Loving a 828 is a no-brainer! What speakers are attached?

An old pair of Mission 700-2's. I recently had them repaired and the woofer surrounds replaced. They sound very good to me. This is my "retro" system, with a Technics DD SL Q2 turnable.

So when do we get to see some pics of your "new" Pioneer?

The 828 is one fine piece that's still an affordable one. It puts out a great sound. Brad

It is extremely clean. The original owner engraved his name (anti-theft measures), which show on the picture. However it is almost invisible in ordinary light.

The 828 I think is about the best looking vintage receivers, very nicely proportioned. I recently replaced all 4 output transistors on mine but I now have to find someone who can properly adjust bias and offset as it sounds fatiqing at higher volumes.

The SX-828. My very first Hifi receiver with the FM sounding CD quality. Still have it and always will. Probably the first really good looking receiver, paving the way for future beauties from Japan.
