I am the proud new owner of a 50-year-old single-speed belt-driven Rec-O-Kut complete with Shure arm and veneer base. Arm has the pivoting stereo cartridge [includes needle].
Belt is cloth and sort of ratty.
Platter needs a huge cleaning.
Things need oiling.
Arm is missing a tiny nub on top, otherwise intact.
Power switch needs knob. No big deal.
Can't wait to fire her up.

$10!!!!!!!

I am playing it as we speak. Using a too-tight rubber belt.
Absolutely no rumble. None. Zilch. Nada.
Pretty nice sound with the Shure arm/cart combo. Oodles of bass. Nice, balanced '60s sound.
I found out what the tiny missing nub is for---it lifts the needle off the record.

Anyone familliar with this arm/ pivoting cart combo?
Is the needle same as the M3D?

It would be nice to replace it.

The diamond chip just flew off.
No stylus.

So, if I cannot fashion a new stylus, I will give the arm away for postage only.

Will post that offer after I have had time to fiddle with it.

The turntable is a keeper, though.

No keep the arm you never know you may want to explore the wonderful world of MONO, and if say you'd want a Denon 102 that arm might be just what the doctor ordered.

A picture of the cartridge sure would help!

The M-3D is one of my favorite cartridges and I have a few replacement syli for it so it should stay in my stable for quite a while...

Does your Shure use a small insertable stylus assembly like the one attached here?

The M3d stylus will fit
but requires a higher tracking force than that arm is designed for.
the cartridge in that arm is a M7D and the correct replacement
stylus is N21D for 1.5 -2 gram tracking or the N22D for 3/4-1.5 gram
tracking.
That integrated shure
arm and cart are quite good but of course you can't use any other cartridge with it..

Thanks for some really useful info. Amazing how the diamond simply flew away. The styli you mentioned are at least more or less simple to get.

Now, as far as the turntable goes, ideas as to the quality?
Sounds really quiet. Way up there with the best belt-drives offered today.

Also, for $15 at a different vendor, I got a Panasonic portable phono/A.M. radio. Works nice. Idler is in good shape, and platter spins down for a minute on a real ball bearing. Nice quality for a once-common unit.
Too fast, though. I will need to tinker a bit.

Seth,

I understand and sympathize with your parrot poop comment.

Bill,

How can I not like a turntable made practically walking-distance from my house?

Durski,

Can everyone say "Projectile Lorikeet Poop"?
That bird is my most favorite of my four parrots, and interestingly, he poops on command, before leaving the cage for my shoulder.

Got to go to bed now. It will soon be time to clean the cages again.

Just having fun with you, that's all. Leave it on your front door step - problem solved!

I never knew there was an N22 stylus.

If the arm only accomodates up to 12" records the arm is the model M212; if it will handle up to 16" it's the M216.
