Welcome to the party, pal! Glad to have you aboard! The California contingent is pretty large here. I'm hoping to head down your way for a little R&R sometime soon.

I'd definitely take thisOne up on his excellent avatar offer. Of course, it might lose some of its impact when reduced in size, but an excellent choice nonetheless! :D

Hi all, thanks for the welcomes, I am having fun here at AK.

As for the equipment I use, well I am always playing around with different pieces, usually finding something at a garage sale or CL that I bring home and try out, and I don't really have the bucks to purchase a high end unit ever since my divorce, so I just make do with what I find for cheap and make the best of it. My interest in music and vintage electonics is pretty much all that I have left!

Currently I have a Marantz 4300 in my bedroom paired with Sansui SP-X8000s (really like this set up, it thumps hard at high volumes and sounds clean at low volumes too), an Onkyo Integra A-809 with some Kenwood KL-777A speakers running off my PC in the den (not sure this is the best set up, probably going to improve on it sometime), and in the garage I have a Kenwood 1100u tube receiver in fair shape hooked up to some JBL LX-55 speakers (this set up sounds decent), and I have a pair of Eico HF-20s paired with Sansui SP-3500s which also sound pretty good when paired with the JBL LX-55s. I've also got an 1980's Fisher CA-885 amp with the full rack of complimenting pieces and a Kenwood KA-94 from the same era. I'm currently selling the Fisher component system right now on CL.

Basically, I just keep hooking up different components with different pairs of speakers and I keep the ones I think sound the best- and sell the ones that don't. I have had a lot of fun and met a lot of cool people who appreciate music and vintage electronics. You vintage tube guys are something else. I can't believe some of the tube amp setups I have seen & heard!

I also have some pieces in need of repair including a Fisher 1800 being repaired in a friend's shop, an old Kenwood KR-9400 in need of some work, and my Kenwood 1100u could use a make over. I am just starting to realize how good tube systems can sound if they are restored and set up right. I just don't have the money to fix them or upgrade them, so I may end up auctioning them off sooner or later... :worried:
