Got down to some serious listening today with an empty house an instinct led me to try a Richie havens lp, Alarm Clock. Great lp! Followed that up with Johnny Janis, once in a Blue Moon. I agree with Hugh Hefner one of the finest albums lp of romantic ballads ever recorded. I can only marvel at the greatness of such tresures for only .50 cents. Both of these lps seem to be playing right in the room without any trace of the sound coming from the speakers. I hope i said that right.

In 1978 Steve Hackett released his LP "Please Don't Touch"--aside from being a ground-breaking LP on its own, Richie Havens was a guest vocalist on "How Can I?" and "Icarus Ascending". Richie's contributions to that LP are significant--great songs too.

Havens' release from around '96 titled Cuts To The Chase is a remarkable album, IMO. And the sq is fine, to boot.

I remember when Ritchie stole the Tribute to Bob Dylan concert several years back in NYC when he sings Just Like a Woman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9UuK-rIpJk) - an amazing interpretation and performance.

I saw him in concert here in the suburbs of Chicago at a smaller venue about 15 years ago. He was great.

If I remember correct he opened Woodstock with two great guitar picking songs. I've been meaning to transfer these to cd.

A while back I was looking for Richie Havens albums that had a better recording of these two songs from Woodstock but wasn't able to find anything.
Will try to find online next time I place an order.

Try "End Of The Beginning" by Richie. Great music, great recording.
Here is a link to the track listing on the cd. It is actually the first
half of the disc:
