A buddy of mine mentioned he saw a set of Infinity in a pawn shop. Turns out they are RS IIb. I didn't look to close at them as I was running late. Guy wants 600.00 for them. Based on the few EMIM I saw on ebay this seems reasonable. I have a set of RSM that I like. Does anyone have a set of RSIIb? I couldn't find any on ebay but a set of RS1B on audiogon was 999.00. What is the diff between the Ib and IIb?
Seems I recall Grumpy having a pair??

You do know about the infinity Classics web page don't you?

I remember hearing the RSIIs when they were new, they were too big and expensive for me at that time, I really wanted them though. I think that these will need a lot of room to sound their best, being dipoles.

I've checked out the site and found a bit of info. One guy was selling a set a few yrs ago for 1500.00 in 7/10 condition. I guess I'll check them out a little more tomorow and see if the price is negotiable.
NOT that I need another set of speakers but what the hell...it's only money. I'll have to start selling off some of the other stuff. These RS IIb are a pretty impressive looking speaker and pretty much TOTL. Seems that any audio gear that was TOTL has been appreciating in price.

Ok . I picked them up at lunch, the guy wouldn't drop a nickel. He mentioned their value on ebay etc so he had done a bit of homework on them. couldn't listen to them as he said they need a 4 ohm amp, he didn't have one. All he had was BPC and I wasn't going to start arguing with him. He did say one guy brought his own amp to test the woofers and they were fine. One of the EMIM has the top and bottom screw missing, not sure what that means. Anyone know the best way to test the EMIM and EMIT units? As the terminals are exposed they are easy to get to. Does the AA battery test work? or just hook up a low powered receiver to them?
Cosmetics are really pretty good all round.
Pics on their way once I get off work(slacking I know) and get them home.

Ok I got them home and took a few pics. One speaker seems to have all drivers working, the other on initial test only had the middle mid and only one tweeter. Checked the fuses and that was the tweeter problem. One still has no HF tweeter. One of the mids works on it's own but not in the speaker. I think it's the way the wiring is done. 3 wires supply the mids and since one mid is not working it doens't allow signal to the next in series??
Any help is appreciated in maybe by passing the one bad one. I can do it to both to even things out.

schematics are available on the infinity classics page. One of the mids has a wire from the + to a neg on another mid.

Hi. Don't know how to start my own thread (It's always 1985 to me) so am hoping a knowledgable someone will see this. I have a question on bi-amping my newly aquired Infinity RS IIb speakers. Can I use the amp of my choice on the low end because of the gain control on the low frequency EQ that comes with these speakers? I don't want to buy something I can't use. -Ethan

Here's a site about repairing EMITs and EMIMs. Also, do you have the EQ box (crossover?), or just the speakers?

I took a look at the tech sheet, it looks like you can use any bass amp that you like, even if the gain is not the same as your treble amp. The gain adjust on the EQ is nice, but even without that, you could use the level controls for the other drivers (on the back of the speaker) to flatten the response.

I have the EQ. Haven't hooked it up yet, so I don't know how much gain it offers. I suppose I could take a pair of woofers I have, hook them up to the EQ, and see what happens. I am waiting for the RS II's to get here, the EQ came first.
