I have been stuck in classical jazz and so I am not aware of the new kids on the block. Are there any new player or players that have that BUZZ: someone who will stop you in your tracks so you got to stop what you are doing and give serious listen. Someone that you will unhesitantly give:thmbsp::thmbsp::thmbsp::thmbsp::thmbsp:

Thomas Marriott- Both Sides of the Fence. A mainstream player (trumpet) for the most part but very nice. His group, too.

Bill Charlap - piano. He's backed some of the best of the jazz greats in his career but all his own music is just excellent. I've met the guy and he's quite a gentleman, too.

I discovered him backing Phil Woods and Bud Shank some years ago.

Cheers,

David

Give the Dirty Dozen Brass Band a try. -Medicated Magic. Great album. They take traditional jazz and give it a good kick in the rear.

Jazz Vocalist:
Madeleine Peyroux

Melody Gardot, especially her latest (and only album, IIRC) Worrisome heart
fantastic album, beautiful voice, nice recording, perfect for late evening sessions :D

Elan Mehler (quartet) - Scheme for thought

Stacey Kent

all three fantastic artists IMHO...

and then there's also Jose James, you could call it jazz, and it obviously is, but on some tracks, he makes a crossover with 'rap' (only on way of singing, he's not going 50 cent ish stuff...) and even some drum & bass. But never too much, and always the jazz part dominates...
I really recommend Jose James, his album: The dreamer.

keep them spinning,
Bert.
