I just picked up "Anthrology" by Elfman and the boys and have no clue what list it falls under. I guess they are just rock...? :music:

Edit:
Can somebody edit the title please. (Boingo...not Bongo)

Well, they're on my "A" list, if that helps.

Pop-punk music-of-the-absurd?

Funny. I was thinking about them today while watching The Leningrad Cowboys (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lNFRLrP014).

I file them under rock but then again I only have rock, classical, and jazz categories.

Went & looked up "Goodbye, Goodbye" from "Fast Times..." on YouTube. Its there, & as outrageous as it was in '82...

Which song is that in the movie? Which scene is it used? Thanks.

They started in 1972 as a Musical theatre group known as: The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo founded by Richard Elfman and a revolving group of members. Their popularity came with the release of Dead Man's Party in 1985 and a change in music which would catagorize them as American New Wave.

The easy answer for me would be they go in the "O" section

The change to new wave was with "Only A Lad" in '81. I think they called them new wave because they certainly weren't the MOR rock that was hot at the time (Journey, Kansas, etc.) and they didn't fit any other categories.

They were among a handfull of bands that exploded on the scene in the mid seventies along with Devo, Wall of Voodoo, Blondie,TalkingHeads,B52's,Joe Jackson and Elvis Costello.

I'd put them loosely in New Wave since that's about when they emerged and became popular.

Danny Elfman, spent years in a mental facility IIRC, but, one bright MF, he's scored dozens of movie soundtracks, Batman to name one, I think the equally insane Tim Burton pulled him from the nut house:nutz::nutz: or, maybe they were roomies:scratch2: He has a smokin' daughter Jenna who played a hippy chick married to a uppercrust hubby on.....?? Crap the mind is goin':D

Though I'm quite sure I'm right on this info, my last sentence may hold the real clue??

I always like Ongio Bongio's horn section, Bad A$$, didn't they do "I put a spell on you" in the Bette Midler witch movie?

Didn't they start doing movie scores (Wierd science, etc) and The Simpsons and such?

I saw them at Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego in the early 80s. They did the finale which was choreographed to a spectacular fireworks display. One of the best shows I've seen.

Some folks would say it doesn't matter what they fall under, as long as they fall under something, like a freight train or moving van.... :D

Jokes aside, they are OK by me, just not my primary source of aural pleasure.

and he has never been in a mental institution He is engaged to actress Bridget Fonda. Danny commands a minimum of 1.5 million per movie score and business is good ,very good

You know a lot about them. I knew them as a result of my best friend working for JB player (guitars) back in the early 80's. My friend Paul painted the purple "Buick" Steve played at the 2nd Us Festival.
