I am looking to get my first taste of a Klipsch horned speaker. Recently I had my dads old system restored. It was a Stromberg Carlson Tube AMP model ASR-433. I am amazed at the performance of the original speakers that came with the unit in 1963, a pair of Jensen TR10's which use horns. Recently I was showing these speakers to a guest and they strongly suggested an older Klipsch along those same lines. I am not looking to break the bank on this but I would like some suggestions for my radar.

Someone locally is interested in trading a pair of KG4's for a pair of NHT Super 2's I am about to sell. HE was selling the KG4's for 250.

Any thoughts would be welcome. Thanks

Not a bad price, thats fair market value. I had a pair and liked them a lot. Traded them off to a person that was going to use with a small tube setup. We hooked them up and they do sound good with tubes. I would give them a listen, you won't be sorry. The bass will suprise you.

Go get 'em and seal the deal. You will be very happy with the KG4s. It sounds like you're ready to take the plunge............do I hear a splash?

I'm not familar with either of those (although I've been a Klipsch owner for 29 years).

Do the trade, give it a whirl and then if/as you get a chance, listen to some Klipsch Heritage speakers (Klipschorns, LaScalas, Cornwalls.....)

If you like the KG's you will probably fall in love with the bigger brothers, especially when you get into the big ones that are fully horn loaded.

Only problem with the bigger brothers are their size...they can be huge although Klipschorns specifically, are probably some of the most space efficient speakers someone can EVER buy.

Fitting in the corners, they occupy space that is typically wasted in most homes.

I had kind of your set-up by half...KG2s and NHT SuperOnes. I never liked the NHTs for anything but home-theater (which they were very good at). They just didn't sound musical to me, whereas the KG2s sounded great, with tubes especially. I think it would be a great trade...those are two very different speakers for sure. So maybe this half-helps?

I have a pair of KG4.2's which I love. If I'm feeling naughty I can easily disturb the neighbors with them playing metal at HALF volume :D, or listen to all the finer details of a jazz record :smoke: . Very efficient, great punchy bass (no boom), on the more lively side of natural sounding if that makesany sense.

I don't hear much (although I am new to AK) about the KG3's. I have a set of these and although I was skeptical about pushing 10" passives with 8" woofers these things cover the entire range I was amazed. I gave 100 bucks and they are mint and can really make your ears ring! I would recommend them to anyone. I might have to sell them can anyone give me a range. I am having trouble navigating this forum and I have read most of the introduction area and about the classified part but I can't find it if a gun was to my head. I love this forum and consider this the best one and the only one I have joined after reading several. I don't want to break the rules (you seem to be pretty strict) and lose my priviliges. As an old hippie musician and stereo nut I have owned, listened and played more things I can remember and find there is still more to learn and stuff stuck in my head that might be helpful. At 57 I was around when much of this "vintage" stuff came out and Stereo Review was lord and master LOL.
