View Full Version : ABB Eat a Peach, WOW!
day67 06-19-2008, 09:07 AM I was on "the site" cruisin thru ABB, particularly Eat a Peach looking for a clean copy and put one of the offerings in my "watch this item." It was a still sealed copy with the song listing sticker on the wrap, so likely it was the real deal, Capricorn label. Went back to it to see what the bidding ended at. Guess what... sold for $257. Holy #@$%! Begs the question (already on another thread) "What's the most you ever paid....." But i wont go there either. Have to say I'm a little envious, I'ld love to be able to be a serious collector and be able to go the route but for now I'll settle for my $7.85 copy in VG++ condition.
Sansui Louie 06-19-2008, 09:11 AM I like my near-mint thrift store copy, $1 :D
70salesguy 06-19-2008, 09:24 AM That is my favorite ABB album.
At my previous residence, I kept a CD copy of EAP in the shop to play on the "garage system". It still sounds great after 35 years! Great music while working on a project in the shop or garage!
I have this on an 8-track as well, purchased in 1972.
The album cover was picked as one of the greatest 100 album covers of all time.
It was also the last album to feature Duane Allman, killed while this album was being recorded. :sigh:
From T.S. Eliot's poem "The love song of J. Alfred Prufrock"
Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?
day67 06-19-2008, 10:23 AM My favorite ABB album as well....that's right, Duane had died before it came out. The legend I recall back then was that he was hit by a peach truck. I think about a year later Berry Oakley (spelling ) died in a similar fashion, very sad.
70salesguy 06-19-2008, 10:38 AM The legend I recall back then was that he was hit by a peach truck.
That was the urban legend. I have read that it actually was a lumber truck.
Sad enough, regardless of the truck. Great loss of talent.
jwrags 06-19-2008, 10:57 AM Lumber truck from Marshall's Lumber Yard about 2 miles from my house. Truck turned in front of him and he clipped the right rear.
Duane coined the phrase eat a peach talking about Georgia peaches and not the tree variety.
Best

It don't get much prettier.
Mystic 06-19-2008, 11:09 AM ...Eat a Peach...sold for $257.
As excellent as that album is, that's a lot of peaches for a copy of it, even if it is a promo with a white label, a fact which wasn't included in your description. Ebay auctions sure do elicit some counter-intuitive results.
MarkD 06-19-2008, 11:18 AM It is one of my favorites of anyone. I have an original LP of it but usually play the MFSL gold version. It's got Mountain Jam without interruption.
I am amazed that it would sell for that much.
day67 06-19-2008, 12:47 PM Wow, ...kinda bringing me back, that's right, I had heard Duane's comment about the origination of the "eat a peach" title --probably read it somewhere. From the description the album didnt seem like a promo, but who knows......reminds me - my favorite version of "Stormy Monday" is done by ABB...getting a little "scattered" here.
KentTeffeteller 06-19-2008, 06:14 PM Hi,
This is my second favorite ABB album next to Live At The Fillmore. I need much better copies, mine are mucho worn from too many frat parties. Anybody have extras? Duane Allman's death is one of the saddest in rock history.

They're pretty common at used record shops and garage sales. I think I have 2 vinyl copies, plus the CD and SACD versions.
MarkD 06-19-2008, 07:49 PM The Classic Records release on 180g vinyl of Fillmore East sounds great.
Billfort 06-20-2008, 08:59 AM I have the SACD version which sounds great, a used LP I got that looked pristine sounded absolutely horrible and I tossed it.
Maybe I'll look for the Classic Records release, I'd love to have a good vinyl copy of this fantastic album.
I've got an original Capricorn LP and also the MFSL CD; it's a fantastic album.
Fillmore East is great too; the Classic Records vinyl reissue is superb.
I have the SACD version which sounds great, a used LP I got that looked pristine sounded absolutely horrible and I tossed it.

I ordered the SACD yesterday.
I had a pristine copy on vinyl as well, but I kept playing it and playing it and playing it and....................Ad infinitum:D
P. Shivers 06-20-2008, 09:05 PM I like my near-mint thrift store copy, $1 :D
