Other than the continuing river of vinyl flowing into our house (just scored ANOTHER stack that'll need a different post), there hasn't been all that much NEW music arriving at our abode...til now. My wife's totally enraptured with her new Alanis Morrisette CD. I have to admit it grows on you. (Dear Alanis CAN get a little intense at times!) Quite well-recorded to boot. She also spotted a gal named Esperanza Spaulding on Letterman one night and RAVED about her performance. The CD is now in residence...haven't cracked it yet, since the new one from Mr. Walter Becker is vying for tray space. Ms. Spaulding plays the upright bass and evidently has quite a voice as well...so that'll need some spins ASAP. Meanwhile, Mr. Becker's "Circus Money" has quite a languid feel to it...I'll know more in a few spins. BTW...to those of you who may have felt Walt's singing on "11 Tracks of Whack" was a little less than overwhelming can rest easy...a much more lyrical feel is evident here. His collaboration with Larry Klein on the disc seems to have been fruitful. Nicely recorded, too. I needed just over $5 more to get free shipping from Amazon, so picked up the remastered edition of Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue". That will require a few martinis for the full effect, I think.

Addendum: So far, Walt's disc has produced 3 faves: "Paging Audrey", "Someone's Saturday Night" and "Darkling Down". Only gripe? The gee-tar needs more prominence...although Walter does get down on the bass. I mean DOWN.
